Pete Hegseth, Trump Dept of Defense nominee…

You're fighting the last war.

Technology has changed everything. Will we need boots on the ground to hold positions? Absolutely. But, the next big war we're in will largely be fought with drones. SEE: Ukraine. Right now.

As of mid-2025, estimates indicate that 70-80% of Russian casualties are inflicted by Ukrainian drones, based on analyses from Ukrainian military sources, Western intelligence, and leaked Russian data. This figure applies primarily to frontline combat losses (killed and wounded) and reflects a shift from artillery dominance in 2022-2023, as drones now create pervasive "kill zones" that hinder advances and evacuations.

So 300 pound drone operators out there - if you're talented, you're in. Just try to lay off the wings while flying as that'll make the controllers slick... and messy.

I won't disagree with you. I'm saying that whenever front lines are created (That WILL happen! War never changes) I don't want, for example, that guy above.
Wonder what wings he's eating.

War does indeed fundamentally change. Grant had reason to believe that as combustion was the limit of imagination in terms of warfare at the time.

The only thing that won't change is that civilian casualties will still likely determine who the victor is.

Next WW is going to be a grim sight.
It's likely gonna be NATO vs Russia, and soon.
I think American and China will stay out of it (directly) and instead produce military equipment to sell to their corresponding allies
