College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

I have to give Matt Painter credit. Most of his guys stick around and when he loses a key piece of the puzzle (Edey last year, for instance), he just reloads. This year’s team may be the best he’s had.
I really like our team too. Final Four here we come!

Good for Cam, I guess. Still hate he wouldn't stick it out here. He'd most likely be our starting SG and filling our biggest hole if he had just waited one semester.

Yeah. Really wish things could have worked out with him. It was a weird situation. It’s not like he didn’t play due to poor performance. He got hurt and had to sit out. Some real attitude issues and impatience in the NIL era.

Watching Auburn’s exhibition against OKST. Offense looks very disjointed, but no surprise with it being an early exhibition. Freeman hasn’t done much, Hall (UCF transfer) has hit 3 threes already. They’re down 16-11 at the 13 minute mark.

Right, enjoy playing for unranked team and probably not making NBA. Will never not quitting leaving team middle of the season and like you said would be likely starting SG this season had he stayed.

Scoring 97 I think I would be more worried about their defense than offense
Defense wasn’t good either, obviously, but if you watched the game their offense was abhorrent. Absolutely no movement at all off ball, everyone was just stand around while Tahaad, freeman, or hall tried to create off the bounce. The only reason they scored so much, is they shot 49 FTs. They shot 35% from the field and 29% from 3.

Gotcha…I saw some comments about Hall being an iso nightmare for opposition, a lot of NBA teams use ISO sets, not always a horrible thing but yea, they’ll need to shoot better. Still though, I would be more worried about the defense as an Auburn fan than I would about the offense, JMO.

Hall is gonna be a menace this season no doubt. Freeman played fantastic once he settled into the flow of the game too. I just don’t think they have the depth of playmakers to really play through ISO sets for 40 mins this season. Once again though, it’s an exhibition in mid October, so they have a lot of growth to come.

On defense, they really let themselves slip for long periods on that end when they struggled on offense. That’s something I feel like Bruce was one of the best in the country at - playing intense defense and turning it into offense to break droughts. If last night was any indication, Steven may struggle to inspire that kind of play/respect from these guys. Will be interesting to watch them on that end early on this season.

Makes me think we are going to miss having a defensive stopper like Mashack who we could put on any opposing player if they got hot. Hopefully someone on the roster will develop a similar skill set.

Pettiford has that look of previous iterations of inefficient Auburn guards. Maybe not as inefficient and out of control as Wendel Green and KD Johnson but he doesn't look like some offensive savant like Mark Sears from bama.

Tonight: Virginia @ Vanderbilt
Oct. 23: Vanderbilt @ UAB
Oct. 24: Kansas @ Louisville

Idk Pettiford is much more of a 3 level scorer and playmaker than those past Auburn guys have been. He was also very good on defense last season. If he was a few inches taller, he would’ve been a lottery pick last season.

I don't believe this for a second. Look at their roster. It's Oweh and a guy who is still coming back from ACL surgery and won't be ready to start the year. Who else do they have?

If we are paying less than Kentucky for our roster, we are getting a STEAL because we are STACKED. Kentucky isn't.

I think you’re letting your hate of UK cloud your opinion…they’re ranked ahead of us in every human poll I’ve seen and every analytics ranking that I’ve seen.
