I know what you're saying. I don't use woke as a term because I think it's been perverted to mean something than the folks who coined it intended it to mean. But I avoid anything that doesn't meet my moral standards. I think we as a society need to demand more out of what passes for "entertainment" but truly seems better defined as brainwashing.

Yeah, King is one of my favorite authors and I really hate that scene. I’ve spent a long time trying to come up with an explanation for it because his doesn’t really make any sense.

He’s explained it away as not being a sexual act but more of a representation of them transitioning to adulthood, which ok, definitely makes sense in theory but that seems like a piss poor way to do it to me.

Here’s something I’ve come up with over the years for this. Something that rarely gets brought up nowadays about King is his rampant coke and alcohol abuse during his legendary 80s run. I think as much as he hates to admit it, his substance abuse back then played a major role in the success of those books. Don’t buy it? Go back and read that scene of It and tell me it doesn’t read like a fever dream of a coke head. I’ve been around coke heads enough to know they can imagine some truly outlandish stuff.

I think deep down he knows the drugs and the chaos they created helped make him big (no different than many musicians of that time) and since he’s a recovered addict for decades now he has no reason to state otherwise.

Just my 2c. I know this is probably going straight to the off topic thread lol but I’ll never pass up a chance to discuss literature.

You know an interviewer asked Carrie Fisher once after the first Star Wars film if she got tired of being referred to as Debbie Reynold's and Eddie Fisher's daughter. She said, "Oh, I don't mind at all. I sort of like my parents." That's the right attitude IMO. I doubt Shane cares.

I know how it reads! I'm a writer too so I understand what motivates someone to write a scene like that! It's why I have no respect for it. Not even saying anything about Stephen King. I haven't accused him of anything, but that is just really gross and disgusting. You have to think something like that up before you write it.

She also struggled with bipolar and depression, on and off drugs for rest of her life. What a troubled soul.

Hmm. I believe we may be out of phase here. My personal thoughts weren’t meant to override your perception of that scene. I was just offering my take on it as I’ve read the book a few times (and happen to own many of his books). I personally hate the scene and I definitely don’t disagree with your opinion of it.

As far as accusations go? Well, ultimately he’s the one who sent the book to his publisher so he’s not free from criticism for it so there’s that.

Authors who give their words to the world are never free from people’s perception of it, however different it is from their own.

Someone earlier said that with this year's offense and last year's defense we'd be undefeated. Well, if we had this year's offense, our defense won't look nearly as good as last year's did. We are a good defense. We just have a playing style that lends to giving up yardage on defense.

At least with the Holiday Special you can watch it and enjoy how awful it is. The Sequels are so awful and destructive of the franchise that I can't watch them at all. I've seen each film once. That was too much.
