Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Having watched both teams all year, it is very illogical to put this as a -8.5 or steeper spread against us. One made FG and it's like -2.5 Bama lol.

Imma be honest!…that year we beat bama i don’t even think Vegas knew what was going on they were running a live bet of bama covering +2.5 at halftime trying to recoup money lost.I’ve never seen that keep in mind the spread that year i think was like 8 or 9 points same case here it’s plausible for sure..when i looked at it last Tennessee was getting sharp money.i really don’t trust Ty pulling one out under pressure. our D-Line is hungry and bama’s O-Line is suspect

@Enki_Amenra @The Dog @mrMet i like it a lot!

They were in a tight spot at the time because they were paying players appropriately for their position/value as it relates to our team, and probably pretty close to conference values/rates. If you give Jakobe an insane raise because Miami is going to bury him in moneybags, you blow up all of your roster management, essentially.

I don't envy some of the decisions they had to make. They recruited all of those guys, you know they liked all/most of them and wanted to keep them. They aren't stupid, they surely understand the value of depth and guys growing in the system.

This year I think they take some massive swings in the portal window for LB and safety (DB altogether, really, considering Boo has been laying next to the door like a dog waiting on the mailman). I hope that we have the NIL to do what the staff wants to do, and what all the fans know we need to do.
If I remember correctly, there was somewhat of a market established for most positions, and a few teams came in (Miami specifically) and completely wrecked the market, driving up values in the portal to the point where the value proposition no longer made sense. I think that hurt our team in the short term, but hopefully it works out in the long game.

In a silo, I’m sure there are several players who would have made us much better this year, but as you put it quite accurately, it would have completely changed the dynamics of our roster’s contracts and likely cost us significantly more money than just paying for that one player. I have no idea how you manage that every year outside of recruiting better players out of high school to develop stronger depth and then just continuing that cycle, because backups for every team are going to get poached every year. Talented and experienced depth is a thing of the past. It is like the project management triangle of scope (talent), schedule (experience), and cost (self-explanatory). You can only pick two: good, fast, or cheap.

I don’t think any talking head has picked the Vols this weekend. Usually you have one or two but I’ve yet to find someone besides Ari (he’s not solid on the pick) to have us upset Alabama.
Just saw 2 CBS people who picked Bama by double digits. Probably because everyone knows the SEC will without a doubt send a corrupt crew to call this one.

Tennessee has the 22nd best rushing offense in the country averaging 5.32 yards a carry and 210 yards per Alabama has the 95th best rush defense giving up 5.82 yards a carry and 156 yards per game.

Tennessee is 2nd in team sacks with 26 on the year and Alabama is 87th in sacks allowed giving up 13 sacks so far.
We sell TF out for those sacks though. Gaping holes in the line and in the middle of the field.

Pate should tell the truth. His prediction is based on corrupt Birmingham officiating but he’s not honest enough to say. Everyone remembers how crookedly our last game at Bama was called, most of all the oddsmakers.
Pate has not liked us all year bro. He's faded us in every matchup, and to his credit he's largely been right. On paper you should bet Bama. I can list the reasons, but keep it simple and just say road game for UT as the easy one. He's a paper pop kind of guy. All he goes by is paper. The thing about this team is we don't fit on a piece of paper.

Just win.

If he still goes first round, that's a lot of publicity and marketing that he's still providing for the university anyway.

We would pay to have 1 (or multiple) 1st round picks for all the social posts, media conversation, recruiting rep that it would buy us.

It's not the way we'd want to be paying for him. Obviously everyone wants him on the field. He probably wants to be on the field. He tore his ACL 9 months ago. Guys that come back in less than a year, just as good as they were before, are such an insanely small percentage. He's rehabbing on an appropriate schedule. Hubbs said that he hasn't had a practice with the team yet. He's at practice, but he's not in pads running around with everyone. He missed spring camp, summer workouts, fall camp. Even if he is cleared, he's miles behind. It's just unrealistic.

The next best thing is having him go in the 1st and we still get to brag about it. That's still money well spent. Maybe not the way we would have wanted it to happen, but that's still valuable to the program.
Agree. He ain't playing again (for us) so let's all huddle around this glimmer of appreciation. It's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Y'all know I am a touch stitious... Well I been called to assist on a church youth event that essentially is going to keep me from watching this game live or to put me in a position to prioritize this game over faith. In the past that's usually meant I am being spared a bad night and instead get to reflect on better priorities. This time I am hoping it just proves good things come to those who wait. I am taking one for the team and will check in late.

Alabama has the 3rd best passing defense in the country but we are by far the best passing offense they have faced so far. We are the first team that will be able to challenge them deep, especially if they have to bring safety's up to help stop the run. The fact that we have 3 really good wide receivers will be a challenge for their coverage also.

Also Alabama has basically no pass rush, they are 97th in tackles for loss and 100th in sacks.
Our offensive line is 3rd in tackles for loss allowed with only 17 given up on the year and 8th in sacks allowed only given up 4 on the year.

I admit. I'm putting in effect 'Operation Record' for this game. If we win, I'll go back and watch. But, my nerves won't handle watching live.

With that said we really need to establish the run early which forces them to bring dudes down in the box. Gotta be able to use playaction to our advantage to give our WR's some 1on1's

Bull from Blue Chip called Bama a much better matchup for us than Arkansas. Cited better players for sure, but believes this matchup is better suited to us. I hope he's right.
