We lost a lot off what's arguably been the best defensive year we've seen.

Bud Elliott hit on it earlier this year.

We had a lot of quality depth on last year's team. Other lesser programs saw it and poached guys that we would ultimately be depending on right now.

The portal giveth, and it taketh away.

I truly think we beat UGA if we still had Thomas. We definitely beat them if McCoy never gets hurt.

I get where you're coming from. But to be fair...McGill, he is doing something. Still attending meetings, rehab, film study, practice, classes, travelling with the team and completing appearances related to his NIL agreement. He's just not been able to play on the field yet, and to be honest I still think people were being far too optimistic to think he'd be back from an ACL tear this fast anyway.
My argument is with the people claiming "his camp" is telling him not to play. That's bologna. He's simply not been ready yet.

I think if you asked the coaches where they dropped the ball, was in the winter and spring porthole. We need to galvanize our defensive talent up front and in back end.

I dont think we are good enough or deep enough at LB and Safety. And sure as **** dont like this line compared to others. So that is on the coaches.

Apparently his injury was worse than just an ACL

I just don't get why media ppl were coming out saying he may be ready by Georgia or October.

Yeah the other annoying thing is everyone comparing it to ZZ. "ACL tear" is kind of vague. It can be the ACL is still connected with a tear starting...or it can also mean you've torn the ACL in half or off the bone. Same type of surgery but completely different recovery processes.

I don't know how severe McCoy's was...but it's not been 10 months yet since his surgery and planting to cut in cleats on grass/turf is different than the way a basketball player moves.

They were in a tight spot at the time because they were paying players appropriately for their position/value as it relates to our team, and probably pretty close to conference values/rates. If you give Jakobe an insane raise because Miami is going to bury him in moneybags, you blow up all of your roster management, essentially.

I don't envy some of the decisions they had to make. They recruited all of those guys, you know they liked all/most of them and wanted to keep them. They aren't stupid, they surely understand the value of depth and guys growing in the system.

This year I think they take some massive swings in the portal window for LB and safety (DB altogether, really, considering Boo has been laying next to the door like a dog waiting on the mailman). I hope that we have the NIL to do what the staff wants to do, and what all the fans know we need to do.

One bad cut or cheap block and his career is probably over. It's a lot of risk to assume.

Having watched both teams all year, it is very illogical to put this as a -8.5 or steeper spread against us. One made FG and it's like -2.5 Bama lol.
sharps are definitely viewing the SEC like the NFL this year. Anything over a TD spread is value to them.

That's why our line dropped quickly from Bama -12.5 to where it sits today around 8 or 7.5 (def still trending to 7.5)

The difference between the very best teams at the top (1-2 per year traditionally) and the very bottom of the league (2-4 per year traditionally) has regressed tremendously. Now everyone is really close in terms of overall talent. The portal and NIL have stretched the talent across the entire league.

Additionally, we paid well for our incoming high school class. We had very few spots to offer transfers because we were at the roster limit until the spring window. A bunch of our high school guys were early enrollees. Kind of funny how people were questioning the WR departures, yet we were tight on numbers. They had to make reductions. It’s a balancing act, and you have to develop talent, too. You take transfers to fill holes; not to build a program.

I don’t think any talking head has picked the Vols this weekend. Usually you have one or two but I’ve yet to find someone besides Ari (he’s not solid on the pick) to have us upset Alabama.

Tennessee has the 22nd best rushing offense in the country averaging 5.32 yards a carry and 210 yards per Alabama has the 95th best rush defense giving up 5.82 yards a carry and 156 yards per game.

Tennessee is 2nd in team sacks with 26 on the year and Alabama is 87th in sacks allowed giving up 13 sacks so far.

yep and Ty has made those numbers better than they are. He has gotten out of alot of bad things bc his ability to move.

Looks like we are better in the trenches.
