think this has been debunked by folks saying banks made the right play calls. issue is we don't have the personnel for it. needs to call to his strengths.

full disclosure, to me sticks is a band from 70's. i have no idea what any of this means

Considering Banks is largely responsible for the personnel as well as strengths it's not technically the right call.

If you're the DC/S coach and you want to play soft zone then you have to recruit the right kind of players for it. We now have basically free agency in college with the portal, so no reason that in year 5 you've not got this issue fixed.

I know people think cushion means soft defense, but that’s not always the case. Tennessee is defending the sticks on 3rd and 10 and running a simulated pressure at the line. The problem is the defender on the offense’s left hash just completely busts or has a terrible zone assignment for the offensive concept. Everything looks bad when a dude is wide open.

Walking the secondary up lets you get some jams and re-routes, but you have to declare your safeties to make that work, unless you are really committed to playing bump and run man. You are also really vulnerable to crossing routes or switch/rubs outside if you’re in man.

I think Banks knows that pressure is his best weapon, and pressure gets multiplied when the offense doesn’t know who is coming—so he’s wants 7 guys on the line at the snap. Given that constraint, playing off coverage makes more sense because it buys time for the pressure to get home. Any snap throw will be in front of a defender.

Calls can work or not work for lots of reasons, not all of which a coach can control. I worry if the calls don’t make sense, but I thought this one did.

I will tell you how this Penn State coaching search is going to go. They will go after a coach they have to give an even more obscene contract to than they gave James Franklin, he might not even be as good of a coach, and they are going to end up stuck with a huge buyout to get rid of him. Some of these jobs where the expectations of the fan base are higher than the amount of resources the program has to compete, are going to end up where coaches go to collect a tens of millions of dollar payday for a short few years of actual work.

I keep hearing today about mitigation in Franklin's contract. Not really. He can do whatever he wants as long as he does one interview a year for a coaching or TV job. Doesn't even have to take the job.

And the way the mitigation works if he does take a job, if his annual salary is less than 8 million, Penn State has to make up the difference.

There are smart people who are trying to oppose this new influx of private equity into the Big-10. Unfortunately, greed typically wins. There's not much thought behind greed. It's why it always leads to ruin. (of some kind or another)

Rewatched the game curious about run defense. If the d-line doesn't win, the defense is cooked. LB and safeties really slow to react and dbs come up playing patty cake watching guys run by then. LB playing in quicksand the first half, number 2 was playing a different game than ours 40 yards downfield on counter just watching. Boo looked like he needed a nap.

This is what I was talking about yesterday as far as Florida's most influental boosters having a public online presence. I just can't imagine any of our biggest boosters tweeting something like this.
He's just feeding red meat to the fanbase. This man knows Lane Kiffin isn't coming to Florida.

I checked their 247 board. They loathe this too. This guy has done this before multiple times and few of them trust he's being honest.

To read the experts on here it is the fault of players and injuries, when as you say this is bad Jr. HS pathetic.

Next the same experts make excuses the players did not line up correctly or cover well when it is physically impossible, yet, the coaches see this alignment in the booth and on the sidelines. They can signal for a TO. Notice they rarely if ever call TO on defense. That's because they are lining up correctly and as called.

Again, it is so frustrating to have such an explosice, good offense and trot this crap out there on D.
