I will tell you how this Penn State coaching search is going to go. They will go after a coach they have to give an even more obscene contract to than they gave James Franklin, he might not even be as good of a coach, and they are going to end up stuck with a huge buyout to get rid of him. Some of these jobs where the expectations of the fan base are higher than the amount of resources the program has to compete, are going to end up where coaches go to collect a tens of millions of dollar payday for a short few years of actual work.
I keep hearing today about mitigation in Franklin's contract. Not really. He can do whatever he wants as long as he does one interview a year for a coaching or TV job. Doesn't even have to take the job.
And the way the mitigation works if he does take a job, if his annual salary is less than 8 million, Penn State has to make up the difference.
