Trump is bailing out Argentina. ‘America first’ is becoming 'Trump first'.

been discussed in the argentina thread. you should probably start there instead of starting a new thread to complain about Trump.

never go full LG.

Has it? I know I brought it up in there. There is no discussion, though. Everybody slunk out. Nobody made any response at all, specifically about Trump bailing them out. I think it's pretty forgivable for MP to miss a discussion of one post.

Thanks Scotty

FYP.

Imagine if this were the Biden admin. Bessent's even got history with Soros. The right would be flipping out about this for the entire length of the admin. It's gonna maybe be in the news cycle for a month with this admin?

Last week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a $20 billion package to rescue the Argentinian economy. The risky taxpayer-financed deal, which involves trading US dollars for Argentine pesos, has little upside for ordinary Americans. Argentina is not a significant US trading partner, and its economy, long in turmoil, has little impact on the United States.

However, Bessent’s announcement had massive economic benefits for one American: billionaire hedge fund manager Rob Citrone, who has placed large bets on the future of the Argentine economy. Citrone, the co-founder of Discovery Capital Management, is also a friend and former colleague of Bessent—a fact that has not been previously reported in US media outlets. Citrone, by his own account, helped make Bessent very wealthy.

Wouldn't Volnation PF be a better place if people found more common ground through acknowledging when **** is ****ed up on their side? When the admin is in the wrong, we either get "But Biden" or some other kind of deflection, or we get silence. And it works this way for 90% of posters on both sides. We're so uncommitted to our principles that we can't bear the humility of saying something that validates the gripe. There'd be a lot more respect between both sides if people would man up and do this. I guess it's easy for me to say because I don't support anybody, really.

I know it's way too much to ask.

Isn’t this old news? Hence the reference of Jimmy.

Trumps an idiot. That’s not new.

We shouldn’t be bailing out any other country.

We shouldn’t be sending money to any other country until the $40 trillion is paid in full.

Dang bruh trying going to Costco and purchasing a sense of humor and a personality.

You have everyone on ignore, how would you know?

Yes it’s bullshot! Just like all of the other times we’ve done a currency/debt swap bailout for other countries. And as a reminder (which was brought up in the other thread and ignored) when we bailout foreign countries the reality is that we are bailing out US banks who made the loans to said countries with our government's guarantee on those loans.

Yeah, I got it. LOL.

It was wordplay. You know, kind of like a joke? I riffed off your phrasing to segue into thanking the guy responsible for this bailout. Get it?

‘America First’ is becoming ‘Trump First’ as the president eyes global power

Donald Trump has his finger in an awful lot of global pies for a president who was supposed to put America first.

Trump on Tuesday threatened to disarm Hamas if it didn’t give up its weapons in Gaza, raising speculation about a US military role, and crowed about obliterating another speedboat off Venezuela in his legally dubious war against drug cartels.

In the middle of a US government shutdown that he claims forced him to fire hundreds of federal workers for lack of funds, he dangled a $20 billion economic bailout for Argentina — but only if voters there shore up his scandal-hit populist pal President Javier Milei.

Trump also publicly tossed around Ukraine’s desire for him to send Tomahawk cruise missiles that could strike deep inside Russia. This might risk the direct US clash with Moscow that he spent months warning against on the 2024 campaign trail. But the threat might repair his crumbled prestige after President Vladimir Putin has mocked his peace efforts.

Trump’s new zeal for global entanglements might surprise MAGA voters who thought the president meant to exclusively take care of business at home...

Always an angle that Trump is working. It isn't ever for the greater good, or the general welfare of the country he is supposed to be leading. 20 Bil aint much in the grand scheme of things but again another politician is giving money away to other countries which could be used here.

Trump could have: ended homelessness in this entire country with 20 billion dollars, or opened the door to better healthcare for lower income folks, improved VA healthcare for vets (who he and republicans generally despise), helped increase cancer research at the CDC (if they hadn't fired them all), set up counseling services for all the children raped/molested by priests and youth pastors, etc. The list can go on. So many things to focus on in this country but his main focus is firing those evil federal employees who didnt vote for him, going after people/private citizens who hurt his feelings, weaponizing as much of the government as he possibly can to use against American citizens, golfing, not releasing the epstein list, and garnering favor from outside governments.
