Bama Injury Report Update

I dont think Bama will just run at will, especially if what's his name is out (blanking on the RB). Grubb also likes to throw, so perhaps if Tenn is going toe to toe he gets more aggressive and abandons a so-so running game for more success thru the air against a weak secondary. Then Tenn exploits so-so pass pro (especially if the RB is out, the backups arent good) and gets enough sacks or gets a crucial fumble/pick that gives Tenn a chance to MAKE the FG this time as time expires. Its really the only way I see them winning this.

For Bama to abandon the run against UT would not be the smartest of moves, considering other teams success against UT with the run. Also, the goal is to keep Aguilar and co. on the sideline as much as possible.

Stop it. He can move around, but he will not be a running threat like we just dealt with in Arkansas.
Simpson is an opportunistic runner. He is kinda like Joey in that regard.

The only difference is that Simpson waits a little long to take off, and is prone to taking sacks that he could have avoided. Joey seems to click a little faster before taking off.

Simpson is a very smart player and is coached well. He knows where the plays are going to open up, but I think he is a bit stubborn in thinking certain seams are going to open vs Joey who also anticipates but seems to know when to give up on the throw and just get a couple / throw it away.

My biggest fear is that Simpson is going to do a couple bootlegs in this game to extend drives. He does it 1-2 times per game and it isn't much, but always steals a first down.

Can Banks come up with a plan to pressure Simpson, yet maintain some resemblance of coverage on their WR's?

My concern is if we go zone against him, we're toast.
If we go man we’re probably also toast. Honestly corner is less a corner for me, we’re terrible at safety and have been slow AF at the lber position. Hood has been one of the best players on defense and Redmon is really coming along as a player as well.

I really believe our only chance in this one is if our offense comes out and punches them in the face in the first quarter and forces Bama to play from behind.

Keep in mind: Bama has only been on their heels once this year against FSU. Call it first game jitters and scheme confusion against a team that didn't have a lot of tape, but I think the real issue for DeBoer and Bama is that they are not equipped to quickly get back into games. Against UGA, Vandy, and Mizzou they took one step forward and just stayed at arm's length in front the whole game. Kirby messed up by not kicking that field goal and extending the game. Vandy did strike them first but faltered simply because they only have a good OL and QB, but not enough talent anywhere else (though it was a one score game in the 4th quarter). Mizzou failed because they had everything but a good enough QB, thought they had an opportunity to win it in the 4th. Mizzou's D also gave up a back breaker TD late.

WE HAVE TO score early. If we let Bama get the lead early then I am not sure we ever get it back, as they will just take the air out and keep our Offense sidelined.

Star position in pass coverage was terrible against Arkie. McMurray and Carter both looked lost out there.

Abandon is a strong word. Just not "lean on" it. You want bama fans to ask after the game "why didnt we run more?"

Heupel will have to be aggressive all game on offense. Honestly I think if we get a big lead early it could be a problem bc he lets off the gas. Simpson and those WRs against our defense will feast; hopefully we can create some turnovers and win a shootout bc that’s what I’m betting this game will be.

Malzahn always gives Bama fits especially when he has a qb that can run the ball effectively. Joey gives us some threat with his legs but he’s just not athletic enough to hurt them badly with his legs.

i hope Arion Carter is healthy. It seems he has something going on because he didn’t play like his usual self against Arky. He is dominant when healthy

They only average 3.7 yards a carry rushing. Their game plan will be to rely on Simpson and those receivers. Miller is irrelevant to their strategy and they have other talent

Incorrect. Miller was huge for them the last 2 weeks. They don't beat Missouri without him. And the Vandy game is likely much closer too.

The rest of their RB group is mediocre and hasn't had much success, even against a bad Wisconsin team. A team that has given up 175+ rushing yards in back to back games.

Sure he is but Simpson is my concern. I’ve seen him enough to see them really eating up the middle of the field

They aren't really pushing the ball down the field though. Granted, they might just dink and dunk us to death. But if they have to rely on the big play to beat us, I think they are going to find some trouble with our pass rush.

How mobile is Simpson?

Not very. He isn't a statue and he can escape the pocket if he needs to and grab a few yards. But he isn't beating you with his legs. I don't know if they have ran more than a few designed QB runs all year. He's averaging 9 yards per game rushing while playing more than half his games vs some bad defenses if that tells you anything.

Dink and dunk helps invalidate a pass rush though. If you know the QB is going to get the ball out in 3 seconds or less, that really limits your ability to get a sack. Their offense really is the passing version of 3 yards and a cloud of dust. That is why I feel like it is critical for us to score early and make them play from behind. We need to get them off their game plan.

That average will go up when they play us. Id say advantage us if we get to pin the ears back and rush the passer a lot. I doubt thats gonna be Deborer's strategy though. He knows he needs to keep the ball away from our offense.
Don't forget about the homer REFs giving Bama all the calls.

Joey needs to learn to slide before he gets hurt. He has to know that if he goes down Tn is screwed.
