Beating Alabama will get us the win we need to get to the playoffs

Ending the streak in Tuscaloosa against at Top 10 Bama would be bigger win than 2022
I agree it would be a way bigger statement to all of college football that Tennessee is really a true powerhouse again. winning these games at Neyland is nice but we have to prove we can win the big games on the road.

big games in our case = Bama, Georgia and Florida

The reality is we can lose one more game, regardless of who three opponent is. I say we just keep and simple and win them all. There hasn't been a 10-2 SEC team left out of the playoffs, and this won't be the year.

Lose to Bama and there will be at least one more loss guaranteed. Beat Bama and we might run the table. It’s a mental thing, especially with this team and staff.

even if we lose a second game down the road, beating Bama in Tuscaloosa will give us enough street cred to make it into the field.

IMO this is easily the most important win of the year and up to this point one of the most important games of the Josh Heupel era. this is a big nut he needs to crack.
He needs them drop first. Stop coaching scared and not to lose. If you go down, go down swinging.

Why not?

We’ve been doing it all season. Florida especially is turnover prone.

OU just threw 3 picks to Texas.

You people just say stuff because a school is a big name without doing any research whatsoever.

Tennessee is a big name too.

our forced turnovers have come against lesser competition. Better teams don't let that happen.

As far as OU, Mateer has been hurt and is still not at 100%.

Don't get your feelings hurt, it ain't personal.

No, it’s not dumb. It is supported by history. Hell, 2-loss teams made it into the 4-team playoff fairly regularly.

A 2-loss SEC has a very, very high probability of making it into a 12- or 16-team playoff nearly every time. There might be an occasion where it doesn’t happen, but it will be very rare.

In fact, I think there is a much higher probability of a 3-loss SEC team making it into even a 12-team playoff than a 2-loss SEC team being left out.
A two-loss team never made the 4-team playoff.

I am a lifetime Vol fan, even though I left the State in 62 to go into the military and never returned (except for short family visits). However, I give the Vols zero chance of making the Playoffs. The team just isn't as good as we thought, when they were thumping the "gimme" games.

I really fear a beatdown, in Tuscaloosa. The eye test tells me we are too slow for 'Bama's speed. We may also lose to Florida and Oklahoma. I won't put Vandy in the win column just yet. I believe the SEC will get 4 teams in the Playoffs but I am not convinced that we are the 4th best team in the league. As for those useless national rankings, I don't believe we are the 11th best team in the country. I see a couple of teams behind us that I wouldn't want to see us play.

Regardless of the final record, I'm proud of this team. I believe they have already exceeded the performance capability of their talent. If we can get to 8-4, I will be extremely happy.

I agree with you. If we lose to Bama, the best win on our resume may be a 4 or 5 loss Oklahoma or Vandy by the time the season is over. There could be 6 (maybe 7) two loss SEC teams and at least 5 of them probably have a better resume than UT if we lose to Bama. A 2 loss Notre Dame team would jump us. Final bid could go to the winner of South Florida or Memphis. Who knows, we really need this W to make the playoffs. Losing to Georgia when we outplayed them still stings. Otherwise, we need some breaks the rest of the way on how other SEC teams fare.

No 2 loss team is a shoo-in but we should have a reasonable chance
From the SEC, I'd say it's about as much of a shoe in and as possible ... I'm sure a mathematical possibilities are out there where tons of teams end up with one loss, but not likely.
