Defense

-on 4th and 1 from the opponent 35? No, you stack the line and shoot every gap for a stop, not just hand it to them.
-again with lbs, not in that situation

It was 3rd and 6.

-wr on left at the sticks is wide open. Wr on right at the sticks is wide open. Wr behind the lbs is open.

The WR behind the LBs is not open.

-safety is 25 yards from a mobile qb on 3rd and 6. Of the 4 WRs, only 1 isn’t open

The safety isn’t playing the QB. As you already said, there’s 3 LBs starring at him. The safety has to play the seam route and help on the dig

Eric Ainge just gave his opinions on the defense. He was not complimentary on players missing assignments and not making plays. He also mentioned the offense called the right play against our defense.

-crossup in communication as I was referencing defense on 4th and 1 which somebody brought up. We didn’t play it like I’d prefer and just gave it to them.
-I disagree on your wr open assessment and drew it up for you.
-I don’t like a safety 8 yards from any wr as the qb is releasing the ball on 3rd and 6 for a team who can’t get off the field on 3rd down.

Every QB looks amazing against us.

We are first in offensive yards and 3rd worst in defense. Only KY and ARK are worst in defensive yards allowed.

We allow 100 more yards a game than bama.

We have a major issues. Anyone who doesn’t agree is not being honest. This unit has studs across the field and should be absolutely dominating the teams we have played so far.

He was amazing though. And I wasn’t calling you out. Just a FYI.
We won't have to face a running QB like that again. Green is a real talent.

When you take a look at their schedule these numbers become a lot less impressive. Ole Miss was really it. I’m it buying the ND hype per usual and Memphis is no where near undefeated playing in a real conference. Ark is a 4 win team this year IF they’re lucky. The next 6 weeks for them are as tough as anyone’s. No one is going to be looking back in 6 weeks talking about how great their O was. To many yards, to many points, period.

Definitely agree with too many points. Their schedule hasn’t been awful though. Memphis is a formidable opponent as they’re undefeated this year and many are saying Ole Miss is a natty contender. They could’ve and probably should’ve won both of those games. We will see how the rest of their season shakes out. I’m glad we won’t see another QB like Green this season. Simpson has been laser sharp however. Gonna have to get a lot of pressure on him.

Sure we do with all this exposure. I would not be surprised if Teams built it into the mix for us. Pavia says hello. Lagway joins in. Teams will use it to alter the defense and it appears that we will bite. Double edge swords.

Now put that into perspective by looking at opponents. Ark has been hanging 60 on nobody’s all year. Up until us ole miss was their only opponent. No one will look back in another 6 weeks and remember “how great Arkansas O was”. Bama has a better offense regardless of the numbers you cherry pick. You’ll find that out in about 6 days.
Arkansas hasn't scored 60 on anyone but they did score 30+ on Ole Miss and Memphis. Both of those schools are undefeated and in contention for a playoff spot. Statistically Bama isn't better on offense than Memphis, Ole Miss, Ark, Miss st or Tennessee and thats taking into account everyone's schedule. Btw Bama didn't get 40 on UGA, we did so I already know what a great offense looks like.

Our defense is ranked #100 in the country out of 134 teams. Only SEC teams below us are Arky and Kentucky. Saturday they gave up 500 yards offense half of which were on the ground. Arky went 7 of 13 on 3rd downs all 7 of which were over 5 yards.

There needs to be improvement for sure, and quickly.
Plus we’ve played an easy schedule so far 62nd in the nation (something like that) and 3rd easiest in SEC. Bama has played the 2nd most difficult schedule with wins @ UGA and @ Mizz.

With that said, any rational TN fan should be concerned about our defense. Stats don’t lie.

We are high risk, high reward defensively. We lead all P4 teams in sacks and are tied for 9th in turnovers. We have 3 defensive TDs on the season as well.

Yes we give up a lot of yards and yes it is frustrating we can't seem to get off the field on 3rd and long too often. But this isn't a bad defense. Hopefully we can get back McCoy which should help improve the secondary and hopefully the run game as well.
No it’s not bad, it’s awful

We are #100 out of 134 defenses. We are giving up 34 ppg in sec play. How in the world is that not a bad defense to you?

coming in to Saturday, Arky lost two games because of two plays
they were terrible and chit the bed against ND
I think they were just sick of Pittman and thought he'd hit his "ceiling."
Green is the best QB we will play all year.

The 2nd half adjustment should be complimented. That pass rush had Arkansas shook. Its not like our offense have these time killing drives so they were on the field a lot. Arkansas line dominated early and Green is a freak athlete.
same thing after UGA ran it down our throats to open the third quarter. Banks and the Defensive staff ARE making adjustments as the game progresses.

The defense had 5 sacks, 9 TFL's and 3 turnovers. They have the best pass rush in college football.

Ok, and?

Great stats, but they're also allowing 36 points per game in SEC play. Something is not right with either the scheme, discipline, players out of position, or all of the above. I don't know. I know offense better than defense, but I know a bad defense when I see one and it's not just because McCoy is out.

We obviously lost a ton of talent from our DL last year, and it's showing. I'm just hopeful they can start to improve and put it all together beginning this weekend. Maybe we will only give up points in the 20s this week? The points allowed trend is actually improving: 44 --> 34 --> 31.
