Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I feel like everyone is going to go after the same handful of candidates, too.

Penn State is going to most likely go after Cignetti, but he’s probably going to make the playoffs and can’t openly talk about it. How soon does UF pull the trigger on Napier now that the first domino has fallen? Would Elko leave A&M? Would UF meet his price demand if he would? Does Arkansas bite the bullet and pay for a big name hire? Would Kiffin leave Ole Miss and it’s comfortable expectations? Is Dorrean out at NC State? Does the Belichick experiment survive past this season? Would Dabo leave Clemson? Would Clark Lea leave his Alma Mater Vandy? Does Fickell survive at Wisconsin? Would Saban entertain coaching again? Will there be more conference realignment that affects decisions? These and so so many more questions out there to be answered. Going to be interesting to see how it shapes out.

Doug Matthews said he thinks "we are what we are" at this point in pass defense.

I know this horse has been dead...but its Safety play that kills us. They are the Achilles heel of this team and all our opponents know it. From not making tackles in the running game due to poor angles and missed tackles, to getting beat in coverage over the middle of the field...the Safety position is our downfall. It sucks because this offense is like the 2022 offense and we can hang 40 on anybody when the WRs and TEs dont drop the ball and sometimes even when they do drop them. Like in 22, our secondary isnt good enough for us to win a Title IMO. I thought like most folks that this was a 9-3 season. We are 6 games in with only 1 loss and thats on Gilbert mostly so I am happy as can be.

We had a Title worthy defense last year IMO, when we finally have an elite defense like last year along with an elite offense like this year...we will celebrate a Title again. The potential is there in 26,27, and 28 at a minimum with all the star players we have coming in at the skill positions on offense. Just have to put together another top 10 or 15 defense to go with it.

** we have also had issues this year at LB other than Carter. I think that can and will be shored up next year with young talent. Spillman is suspended for 1st half at Bama and thats gonna hurt IMO. Safety is our real problem and we need to get 2 of them from the portal ASAP

Lotta teams already looking for coaches.

If I’m accurate here I believe the major college jobs open and/or operating with interim coaches presently are ...

Stanford
Oklahoma State
Oregon State
Virginia Tech
UAB
Arkansas
Penn State
UCLA

this is just through week 7 of the season and there are most certainly plenty more coming in the weeks ahead.

Safety is huge issue. LBs other than Carter are too slow.

Most concerning thing was Arky had worst defense in league but they repeatedly picked on Umarov amd Perry on our OL...

The lack of discipline looked like last year.

Sham has been a liability all year at guard. Instead of doing what everyone thought coaches would do and moving Perry to Shams guard spot, Perry still split time with Sanders at Right Tackle. I dont know why... but i am sure theres a reason. Every time we HAD to run for a 1st down we went to the left side behind Heard and used Heard and Kitselman to open a hole on the edge or went off Tackle on Heards side. We ran for 220 yards and didnt allow a single sack again...but thats not indicative of how well the Oline played IMO. Joey got his highest grade ever of 90+ from PFF despite throwing for almost 100 yards less than his average at 220 something because he made something outta nothing all game and ran for 59 yards. Joey didnt throw a bad pass all game and played smart. Brazzell was bracketed with a Safety the entire game...Matthews SHOULD have had a huge game but he quit on his route on a TD pass from Joey. I hope everyone doesnt double cover Brazzell the rest of the year. If they do, CJH and staff have to be prepared for it and take advantage.

Everybody is trashing our defense, and they struggled at times for sure BUT:

They had 5 sacks again
They forced 4 fumbles and kept 3

The 4 Arkansas possessions from before halftime thru the 3rd quarter went:

Turnover on 4th down
Punt
Fumble recovered by UT
Punt

They got zero points and we built a 17 point lead during that critical time up until there were 8 mins and change left 4th quarter and CJH started playing conservative to run clock rather than aggressive to score. Which is why we gave up 14 points and let them cut it to 3pt lead. This game wasnt a nail biter because of the defense. It was a nailbiter because of defense, sloppy play by Olinemen and WRs, and then going conservative way too early by CJH and staff. I am happy with the win and ecstatic to be 5-1....but we will have to be better on BOTH sides of the ball to beat Bama plus the 2 refs that will inevitably screw us the whole game. Hell they called 10:1 penalties in Neyland. Tuscaloosa will be the same

Don't know if they showed it at all on TV...probably not...but the POTS actually played Pink Floyd for their halftime show. Played "another brick in the wall" and "money" while spelling out "the wall" and "Pink Floyd". It was really cool. Crazy that it happened at the 1st home game that I have been to in 5 years...since we talk about PF here in this thread periodically. I got really lucky/blessed and Dutchman is an awesome dude for helping to make it possible. I will load more pics when i figure out whats wrong with my phone. My daughter sent them to me from her Iphone and for whatever reason I could only get 1 picture to load to VN last night from my galaxy phone.
