We have the TEAM to beat Alabama

I thought we won as a dog at LSU. I think we ended up blowing them out something like 42 to 10
No, we were -2.5. And even if we had been a one point underdog, we were ranked 8th, they were barely in the top 25, and it was a noon kickoff.

This is a game at Bryant-Denny under the lights where we’re a two-score underdog to the #6 team in the country. We have a lot to prove and I will gladly eat crow if we somehow pull it out.

I’ve watched both teams all year, and Ty Simpson is a solid QB but he hasn’t played against a pass rush like ours.

Bama is not run dominant. That’s good because our rush defense is not good. Our offense is too good for their defense.

Football is like Boxing in that styles make fights. Bama doesn’t match up well with us imo.

I’m worried about referees in Tuscaloosa honestly. These referees need some accountability. In fair called game I like our chances in Bama.
I feel like I heard Jayson Swain say something similar on the post-game radio show. He praised a lot of what Alabama does, but also said that he actually thought it was a good match-up for the Vols relative to other opponents.
Nice post. 👍

Without getting Jermod McCoy back and with the way we have played soft coverage on 3rd down, I don't have much hope we will stop Simpson much. We may be able to limit the run game and get pressure on Simpson here and there, but I don't see us doing well on 3rd down.

At the same time I don't see us getting blown out becuase our offense won't go into conservative mode.

Good point. We might actually play better trailing slightly (one possession) vs trying to protect a lead late. The big question is can we stay within one possession of them on the road until late. I don’t feel great about our chances doing that with a struggling defense.

Our best bet is to run warp speed offense to try to score as many points as possible and a four man front on defense with some variation of a blitz every down. I’m sure we’ll go to a three man front with soft zone coverage, though.

The minute any Vol fan thinks we "Should" beat Bama, Georgia or Florida, they should immediately report to the nurses office for a full medical check up.

Each SEC game is going to be (and has been) a dog fight. We can pray and hope we win but, to go into Tuscaloosa and say we should win? That's just plain ol nuts if you ask me. Let's be humble and realistic till after the game.

Go Vols.

To me it’s simple watching them / us play.

Both teams are good on offense. Both are not as good on defense . . . But I would give Bama the nod over our defense.

Trends that will kill UT in this game unless they change the trajectory of those trends:

1. Pre-snap penalties are a staple of CJH teams. I love CJH but it is what it is. This trend is undeniable. We had 3 against Arky at HOME. Usually in tough SEC road games we have that many or more. Each time it is a drive killer against good teams. If this trend continues at Bama . . . Our chances to win go down.

2. Turnovers - the one thing our defense has done well is create turnovers - that will have to continue . . . But unlike the Arky game . . . We will have to turn turnovers into points / probably touchdowns. I see no way we win if we are not plus 2 in the turnover category.

3. Bama will convert at an insane rate on 3rd / 4th down. We won’t stop them unless they turn it over or they have drive killing penalties.

4. I think we need 48 plus points to have a chance to win.

5. Our chance to win - probably 30-40% based on the “eye” test of the two teams and it’s a road game in the SEC. We had trouble / needed some luck / good play to beat MSU on the road. Bama ain’t MSU.

Having said that . . . I think they can play much better than they have in all phases. It will take their best game of the year . . . And some turnovers to win the game.

Every week there's at least one poster that thinks we're gonna win handily regardless of who we're playing.
And people call me negative. I can’t hold a light to some of you guys. I certainly can see your point but I’m not ready to throw in the towel. Why don’t we just forfeit and not get on the bus. That way some of you would be happy. I’m going to hope for the best and hope my Vols play their best game of the year.

The best part of our defense is our pass rush. Bama gave up 4 sacks to Missouri in 3 quarters. Maybe we can steal a couple of turnovers and get a short field for our offense. Bama also lost to a Florida State team that just got beat by Pittsburgh at home. Bama is beatable if we play a clean game and get a couple of breaks. We should all stay positive and hope for the best. Go Vols. Orange colored glasses men.

Nice post. 👍

The thing is
@StuckInBamaVol , and others even confess that they knew jackcrap if Tennessee wins.

This isn’t 2020 Alabama, and Tennessee plays complete football in spurts. They just have to maintain that longer each game.

This is your worst take yet.

Ty Simpson will smoke us passing. You thought our run defense was bad, just wait until you see how bad he smokes us over the middle.

They win by at least 10. Yes, Simpson is that good.

Yes, we will bring pressure, but it will absolutely not be enough.
…peeing down yer leg, eh? 🤣🤣🤣

I don’t think presenting an opinion on what someone expects to happen in a game makes them negative or positive. It’s simply an opinion. Saying “we suck” or “we can’t” is what I would label as negative.

I expected a close game vs Arkansas. It was a close game. I’m glad we won. But because I predicted a close game and not a cakewalk I was labeled as a negative poster and bad fan. Oh well.

I want nothing more than to win in Tuscaloosa, but my prediction based on everything I’ve seen from both teams is that we lose by 8-12 points, so that’s what I expect to see Saturday night. So be it.

Lol. Bama's defense is much better than what we faced against Arkansas and we were not up to par in that game. Us scoring a lot of points I think will be our only chance to win though. Bama will be able to run at will.
Missouri ran all over bama in the first half. They haven’t played great defense either this year. At least ours gets after the quarterback and has created turnovers. That has been overlooked by many. GBO

Anything can happen in a sec football game. I agree no games are gimmies, but to think we don’t have a shot is pure bull hockey as well. Nothing wrong with actual fans believing they have a shot, thinking we don’t have a shot is as bad or worse than thinking it is an automatic win and will be easy. As a fan I fully believe we can win this game knowing more than likely we will have to play well and there certainly are no guarantees. We have fans extremes both ways, some never give credit and others believe games like bama will be easy. Neither group is very logical.

Kirby Smart spoke to this issue. Said there was a huge difference between hoping to win (could) and expecting to win (Will). Regardless, it ain’t easy.
