Penn St fires James Franklin

Won’t be hard to find an upgrade to replace a coach who sounded checked out and ready to walk away yesterday from the job.

The current version of Franklin has the mentality of the program on death’s door
Maybe that's a fair point. Just saying, I'm not sure who is a slam dunk that would leave their current job.

Well the big question is if they were willing to fire him with this buyout, are they equally as willing to pay a big buyout to go hire someone.

So Penn State has the mindset they are going to buy their way to an upgrade, what are the buyouts for guys like Cignetti (i personally don’t think he is leaving Indiana), Kiffin, Lashlee, Matt Campbell???

Like the issue here I can’t think of many Power 4 coaches that are looking to move to that job over the comfort of their current gigs knowing that a 10 win season is automatic playoff contention.

And I don’t think you fire Franklin to go hire some G5 coach like Golesh or Mullen if they go 12-0/11-1 either.

Is Penn State getting shredded like we did when we fired Fulmer?

Very similar except Franklin is much closer to major success than Fulmer was.

Lane Kiffin's buyout is only 4 million and he's enamored with big name programs.

And that’s why he has left Ole Miss for so many big programs 🤡

Also, the issue with Fulmer’s buyout is that Hamilton extended him a year earlier and thought in his grand wisdom that firing Phil less than a year after extending him where the buyout would be as high as it could be was smart.

What big names have offered him a job since he has been at Ole Miss?
Auburn begged and pleaded for him after Harsin.

Per multiple guys, Florida boosters were all set to go after him before Napier saved his job last year.

Kiffin is smart enough to wait out Bama once Deboer fails to survive in Saban’s shadow and the fan base touches grass and grasps reality.

Auburn isn't held in the same regard as Penn State as far as an elite/legenday program goes. Penn State/Notre Dame/Michigan/Ohio State are the all-time Midwest/NE media darlings. Auburn is forever 2nd fiddle in it's own state.

Right but there are some schools who have been down to the point where they would be thrilled with 9-3 seasons the first few years after hiring him.

Like no team that is one step away from contending titles is gonna hire him.

But some of these schools trending down would kill for him.

Hell look at how far Wisconsin has fallen. They’d be thrilled with 9-3

I dunno man. Being a perennial 8-4 or 9-3 type coach at a place like PSU is basically coaching no mans land.

My 85 year old mother could probably win 8 games a year at PSU with their schedule. Her football knowledge is limited to "the QB is the one who throws the ball" BTW.

He's most likely gonna be at a G5 school for a while to recuperate his reputation UNLV if Mullen gets a big gig. Somewhere like that

If there are firings en masses across the country, I wouldn’t be shocked if he stays P4 program level. Like it sorta seems that Beamer ball is fading in South Carolina. Franklin would be a homerun hire if it meant replacing Nepotism boy.

The thing for Franklin is if he wants to keep coaching. Because I think he will have demand but yesterday his press conference might as well been a funeral. He would prolly be better off taking a year break. Lord knows he can afford it

Wow, the Athletic Director of Penn State has done it. James Franklin has been fired. I know that after the Nittany Lions got defeated by an average Northwestern team in Happy Valley yesterday afternoon, whenever they showed the highlights, my dad would sing "Bye, Bye Franklin." And today, James Franklin is no longer the Coach of Penn State. I think that after this, they'll still win maybe a couple more games and possibly make it to a lower tier bowl. But what a fall from grace after starting number two in the polls to now being unranked, at .500, and being without their Coach.

My dad also told me that he thought that after the season, that Florida will fire Napier (Still a possibility) and that James Franklin would be their new coach. But I don't see that happening now after this. But he will land another job in a couple of years, and he will have $45 million coming to him. Now it makes me wonder who Penn State will look to go after as their next Coach. I could see McGuire of Texas Tech, Cignetti of Indiana, and I have no doubt that Campbell of Iowa State will get an interview. Or would they go to Boulder, Colorado and see if Sanders would be interested?

I didn’t realize this but he’s 65. He doesn’t look it but seems like he’s been firm in his stance that Indiana was the one that gave him a chance so he has loyalty to them bigly. And given what he’s done there, you only gotta get Mark Cuban to spend to keep him there.
Cuban just made a very large gift to help fund NIL efforts. I could be wrong, but I don't see Cignetti going anywhere. If he were ten years younger, sure.

Nothing to do with Kiffin, but Wisconsin will likely be open soon, as well.
