All this negativity after a close win is confusing and not needed. Yeah there were some holes and we got gashed at times and isn’t ideal. But our offense seemed to do what they wanted at will and was never scared they couldn’t go down there and do their thing. Play calling at the end got a little dicey and we were kinda playing scared but that same defense yall are trashing came up with some good plays and a turnover. When we get McCoy and Gibson back it will be a game changer. I would like to see if hood can potentially play some safety because I feel like he could be a freakin ball hawk back there and has proven to be a solid tackler. D line is solid just misses assignments here and there but I’ll ride with them. Linebacker is decent, Arion Carter is a man amongst boys and telander is slow but the dude plays his heart out and makes tons of plays as well. We have a solid receiving core that we all thought was a huge question mark but have all proven us wrong with a 3 headed monster at tailback and transfer qb that is playing lights out. Times are good on rocky top so quit your moaning and let’s go kick some bama ASS!! GBO
Gibson isn’t coming back. McCoy probably won’t either at this point.

We had our worst offensive performance of the season so far against one of the very worst defenses in the country. Defense continues to get gashed. Heupel is still coaching scared. Yesterday was not a good day for the trajectory of the season.

Well I’m sorry if that came off wrong honestly but I do agree that our contain has been pretty bad at times but you do know we have the #2 sack defense and turnovers used to be pretty rare in years past. I’m more curious to see if we can get over the road hump and win some games. Our schedule and the overall state of football this year could be special. Ohio st and Miami to me look the best and the rest is literally wide open. One week at a time. Trying to blaze one up this weekend
Have said this all year. We don’t just lose contain “at times”. We lose it ALL the time. That’s why we get gashed with the same running plays and QB escapes every game. Our DE’s are great pass rushers but don’t contain well. Until they figure that out, teams are going to consistently run the ball on us.

And the penchant for going conservative after getting a lead is a problem that needs to be pointed out. I’m happy to get a win because they don’t put video in the record book. Just whether or not you get the W or an L. But this team is a work in progress and there are deficiencies that eventually will cost us if they aren’t rectified.

We avgd 7.5 ypp. Struggled on 3rd downs but penalties a factor on a few of those.

There are negatives and positives to be taken from the game yesterday. Negatives? The defense is feast or famine. They continue to get gashed and give up big plays. I think we all figured that would be the case against Arkansas though. Heupel not keeping his foot on the gas is the other.
The Vols still managed to win despite playing below their ceiling. We all complain about the defense but the turnovers and sacks they create cannot be ignored. The offense made plays when it mattered most. Win and survive.

Being pushed to the absolute limit by 2 of the 3 worst teams in the SEC, one being at home off a bye, is not a good sign.

Trust me the same ones will still be complaining regardless of the score. I really think they would prefer we lose so they can “claim” they were right. Yes we are limited on defense but our offense gives us a chance every game.

Certainly wide open for the team to make the National Championship selection. I don't see it happening if defense is going to get gashed like they have in the last two games. I think I will give Arkansas credit for getting better under Petrino or at least playing harder. I still think we should've been able to stop the run better and contain the QB better. Their turnovers beat them and glad they committed them.

We have a very tough game versus Bama a win there certainly would be amazing the way were playing right now. I think were looking like 8 and 4 while still hoping for 10 and 2.

They let a guy on a mediocre team average 6.4 yards per carry on 13 attempts on their home field coming off a bye after the dude trashed them to the media days before.

SOFT
Still won. Should have turned into a blow out but we decided to take the foot off the gas with 9 minutes left in the game. Defense was gashed all day long but still came away with 6 sacks and forced 3 turnovers. Take whatever you can get I reckon.

Defense is troublesome, but doing well enough so far. Too often they are being asked to “win the game.”

I am concerned with CJH continuing to take his foot off the gas in crucial moments of the game. They are 5-1, but are very close to being 3-3 (0-3 in conference) because of this tendency. Being creative in critical moments is the next step for him, not running the same three running plays and punting.

Only way I see us beating bama down t town is , simply just have to out score them in a shootout type game . Ty Simon is playing like a mvp right . Perhaps may win the you know what trophy …

If McCoy doesn’t play this weekend he won’t be back and Gibson is done for the season. Our def is what it is, we are going to be in shootouts from here out.

You would have never let that happen in your dreams, would you? That's as close as you have ever been to that sort of competition.

It's was a stupid take before and it's a stupid take now, little guy

Penalties hurt our offense. We did pretty much whatever we wanted offensively.

I’d lay that under 40 point performance at the feet of the referees.

Appalling.

Hype coaches not to lose. Fulmer Jr! He has no cut throat in him.
I wonder if the % chance of losing increases if you keep throwing the ball instead of trying to run up the middle. Everyone would be talking about how stupid we are if we were throwing picks in the last 8 minutes of a game.

On the 3 hour drive back to middle TN from the game last night. I thought about this issue a lot. Why do some people feel "subdued" after a win (me) while others just want to focus on the win (my wife)? I don't think either is wrong, just a matter of perspective. Some folks are able to view a single game in a vacuum where only that game matters. Others, like myself, view every game within the context of the remaining games on the schedule. As we struggled to close out the hogs, I'm already thinking about @AL, OK, @FL, VU and trying to imagine how this level of play is going to survive without 2 or more losses. 5-1 is great, but the 3 SEC games indicate a team that is barely surviving. Maybe I'm jaded after being a life-long Vol fan and seeing it all - good, great, bad and awful.
A lot of our "great" teams had close wins against unranked SEC opponents and actually lost to unranked SEC opponents. Our 1997 SEC championship team got throttled by a mediocre Florida team, and barely beat a few unranked teams. Also got blown out by a great team. Our 1997 SEC championship team had literally that type of season

Had a lot of close wins in that magical 1998 season too

McCoy will be back for Kentucky if not this week. Idk the whole Gibson thing so not sure on him. And it was hypothetical brotha, but I’m sure he would play the ball in the air and have better coverage than what we got back there. You really sit him on the bench when those two come back???
McCoy isn’t coming back against Bama, even if he’s cleared.

Ky? - it’s a possibility but more to the story on this one.

Yall just analyze way too much. We all see what is happening but it’s like yall don’t even want to celebrate. We are in a good spot right now and have a chance to beat bama I think. Our offense is very dangerous and if we put pressure on Simpson and maybe their rb doesn’t play then we are in it. Not gonna be easy but be grateful there is no saban coaching that team.
Bama has troubles at right tackle and their RBs are only so-so in pass protection. I think we can get pressure. But Simpson is pretty good keeping his eyes downfield and finding open receivers. Our secondary, especially safeties, is concerning.
