We are definitely underperforming, but had not been healthy up to this point. And as far as today's game goes I think the Arkansas offense posed alot of problems. I'm not sure there is a more dynamic QB in all of college football than Taylen Green. Couple him with an effective rushing attack that was gashing us and it was alot to handle.

I still think we have ways of getting better. The staff is slowly moving away from Tealander at LB. I know he is well liked as a leader but he is too slow. I thought Perlotte looked good when he had opportunities and Spillman has good speed as well. It would be great if we ever got McCoy back at CB. Safety does hurt though. Losing Jacoby Thomas was a big loss and it sucks we let him walk. Would also be nice if Boo would get it together. He looks disengaged at times.

Farooq isnt the problem. He is playing like a stud right now. Especially for being a freshman. Caused a key turnover in the game tonight. I just dont know how we are getting gashed like we are in the run game. Thats what concerns me the most.

There is absolutely zero excuse for our program to be at the very bottom of sec D rankings with the likes of Arkansas and Kentucky

Absolutely no excuse in year 5 of this staff’s program. It is pathetic and staff changes need to happen. We are giving up 34 points a game in regulation in sec play.. there is no excuse for that!

I don't agree with that. While our defense still has some questions, we wouldn't be 5-1 right now if we had the type of defense ran by Sal Sunseri.

Our defensive front has done really good. Just that our LBs could be better and our secondary is what is our weakest spot on the defense and what has really been hurting us on that side of the ball.

Agree but I’ve noticed that Heuple has become very conservative at certain times during games. It’s almost like he’s playing not to lose and has abandoned the cutthroat approach he had in the first couple years of his tenure at Tennessee. There’s a complete lack of safety play and the LBs are lacking as well especially in pass coverage. Vols are most vulnerable in the middle of the field run or pass. What makes this all worse is there will be 4-5 series that we’ll look completely dominant then out of nowhere right back to letting the offense do whatever they want.

The RBs shouldn’t be making it to the 3rd level of the defense untouched. #7 is the only one who can play in space. Jmo

Arkansas had 8-9 in the BOX most of the 4th quarter; no reason for the QB not to run or throw deep, right? Maddening.o_Oo_O:cool:

The issue with the run defense is that the safety help is not there. Last year we had Will Brooks and Jakobe Thomas back there to help in run support. We dont have that this year. Watch Turrentine. He’s getting ate up on run plays..

I guess we will have to disagree. The additional time our defense is on the field is going to have an impact. Our defense carried us last year. We are younger this year. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year from everything I read before the season started. We are in a position to possibly make the playoffs. Our coaching staff hasn't stopped doing a good job just because our numbers aren't the same as last year. We definitely had better quality depth on our team last year. If we fire our defensive staff, thT doesn't make us better and wh at quality coach comes in knowing they get fired if the defense doesn't meet your ranking standard.

I would disagree with this. We have a lot of depth made up of good SEC football players. We don't have studs.

Studs are players like John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth. Reggie White and Shawn Ellis. We don't have a single player on the DL that are those guys as stud examples.

Its why Rodney rotates them, the above didn't rotate but played a LOT of snaps. Offenses see things in scheme and plan to take advantage of it. I felt Arkansas did a good job first half of moving the DL out and opening holes. It got more difficult in the second half for them.

It really is amazing that this offense has no ability to eat clock. Every time they try it's a clown show. Why the heck don't they just stay off the ball until 10 secs on the play clock, the run normal offense?!?

Feels like early JH years...can't get off the field on 3rd down and gash plays. We are getting to the QB, which is about all we're good at on D. If you think about it, for last night, w/ no penalties called on Ark, the 5 sacks were the equalizer.

Wasn't watching to see if Brazzell was double teamed or not, but one catch for 5 yards for best receiver on the field won't cut it next week. Great to see us FINALLY using TE as a weapon though, and getting Matthews engaged.

No. Brazzell is the most likely exception. AR shut him down or forced JA elsewhere last night. Bishop is solid - not a game-breaking RB. Josephs is good. We don't really have any position on the team where we'd have the "best" player in the conference. JA & Brazell are the closest.

That was a pretty good offense they just played. I figured it would be a bit of a shootout and it was. Tennessee lets up on teams when they have they down and it just about cost them. The sloppiness and penalties will cost if that continues.. They'll be playing the best offense they've seen all year next week..
