The footprint and number of potential households is much greater for the B10.
So people in California can’t tune in to watch their neighbors playing in the SEC? I’m not seeing where fans are mandated to watch the closest Power 4 team closest to them.

Attendance and tv viewership is the only metric that’s logical.

Attendance figures have little to nothing to do with media rights deals. This shouldn’t be complicated, the B10 has a much larger footprint. There are other factors in play, such as the B10 network and the overall brand value of certain programs, but the biggest driver of the deal is the TV market size.

I counted 3 SEC games and 1 Big 10 game in the primetime slot. These games are nationally televised and are not exclusive to any region. I could have watched the Big 10 game if I wanted to.

You're stating the TV market thing as though it's axiomatic, but I don't know that I buy it. States with SEC schools have a marginally higher population than states with Big Ten schools if you exclude California. If you think a large percentage of people in the Los Angeles metro care about or are tuning in to watch USC or UCLA, I've got some lakefront property in Gatlinburg I'm looking to sell.

Because he’s a fool. Sankey (and you) don’t understand where the money comes from and agreed to less than he should have.

Are we starting over?
Yeah, that’s right, all the external media consultants, legal counsel, in-house media advisors, and university administrators know nothing about media rights deals. Again, this isn’t difficult. Why do you think Maryland and Rutgers were added to the B10? Neither of those athletic departments bring anything to the table as far as national reach goes. What they did bring was the NYC, Baltimore, and D.C., markets. No different than when the SEC added Mizzou. That was done specifically because of St. Louis and Kansas City.

The problem with the Mizzou deal is Missourians don’t care about college sports. They only care about the Chiefs.
