Israel vs Palestinians II

WASHINGTON — The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) will oversee the initial stages of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) deployment into the Gaza Strip — with three or four other nations expected to contribute troops.

CENTCOM’s commander, Navy Adm. Brad Cooper, will “initially have 200 people on the ground” — though no American forces will go into Gaza, US officials told reporters on a White House-organized call.

The American military role was described as coordinating troops provided by Egypt, Qatar and Turkey — and managing deconfliction with the Israelis.

The US said no American troops would be on the ground.

“[Cooper’s] role will be to oversee, observe, make sure there are no violations or incursions — everybody is worried about the other side. So much of this is going to be oversight,” one US official said.

“Embedded in his team of 200 people will be probably a bunch of people from the Egyptian armed forces who will help, the Qatari armed forces who will help, as well as the Turks and probably the Emiratis,” the official said.

A map of the Gaza “buffer zone where the IDF will fall back once cease-fire requirements are met.

Hopefully those smart walls are smarter than the previous ones that let Hamas fly over with some floor fans and sailcloth.

A Human Tide Floods Back Across Gaza as Trump's Ceasefire Begins and IDF troops start to withdraw... but who will run wasteland now as Hamas insists on keeping its weapons?

A ceasefire in Gaza began today after two years of devastating war - following Israel’s overnight approval of President Donald Trump’s peace plan aimed at halting the bloodshed and securing the release of remaining hostages.

At noon local time (10am BST), the guns finally fell silent as Israeli troops began withdrawing to new defensive lines under the fragile truce and thousands of displaced Palestinians began making their way back to Gaza City.

Extraordinary images showed huge crowds walking across bombed-out wastelands towards what remains of their homes in the ruins of the besieged strip.

The pause marks the most dramatic step yet in efforts to end a conflict that has ravaged Gaza and destabilised the Middle East.

While the return of hostages after 737 days and a ceasefire ending two years of Israeli bombardment will be welcome news to either side, such steps are only the start.

The sides are yet to agree on the precise details of the second phase of Trump's plan, which calls for the disarmament of Hamas; a transitional authority to govern the Strip; and a multinational peacekeeping force to provide security.

While Israel has demanded for the terror group to play no role in the future of Gaza and for it to lay down its weapons, the Sunni Islamist organisation hasn't committed to either.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has said that his military will stay 'deep inside the Strip' for the foreseeable future, despite the plan stipulating that Israel should withdraw from the enclave.

Hamas presently has two trump cards: hostages that it took two years ago and its weapons. It has kept both, with some hostage releases as well as a loss of lots of its weaponry. Apparently, world pressure—meaning Qatar—is so great that Hamas is willing to part with the long-suffering, emaciated hostages. I personally do not believe that they will give up their weapons, as their value to Palestinian society would go to zero. It is important to note that Gazans celebrating the apparent deal being formed between Israel and Hamas through the leadership of Donald Trump screamed, as usual, about the Khyber massacre of the Jews. Not only will Hamas not give up its weapons, but Palestinian society will not be reformed.

It's been about 20 years or so, but I still recall how demoralized I felt when my job offered me direct deposit.

Moving forward, I want scanners provided for boosters and badges on every player, every coach, and all staff at UT events. Hell, put QR codes on uniforms for in game NIL donations.

VN: we are terrified of foreign influence that threatens us via the voting public.

Also, VN: it makes sense that it is this convenient for foreign influence to buy our politicians.

Weird for the author to claim this conflict has destabilized the ME.

@volfanhill remember this convo about influence? AIPAC literally buying our reps like groceries with bar codes.

There’s a lot more money in politics than from AIPAC. Yet only when it’s the “zionists” do you accuse them of “buying” politicians.

Weird. Almost as if it’s an antisemitic trope?

“serving as mentors in a new journalism fellowship explicitly created to help Israel win”-Drop Site

He’s not claiming they’re lying because he’s doing it for free. He’s claiming he’s not a “mentor”, but rather he’s speaking to young journalists. Something he does often and for free.

You should find better sources that don’t intentionally misrepresent people.

AIPAC isn’t foreign. And last I checked our resident libertarian supported the decision in Citizens United v the FEC.

On a scale of 1-10 I'm gonna score this a solid 0 in terms of affecting a lobbyists decision to donate. Legal tender is legal tender and a legal transaction is a legal transaction. The demarcation didn't change.

If it were up to me, politicians would only be allowed to receive lobbyist donations in loose change from the backside, btw. This is a nothing-burger, though.
