The (many) indictments of Donald Trump

New York state Attorney General Letitia James was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury in Virginia on charges of bank fraud and making false claims to a financial institution that netted her nearly $19,000 in savings on a loan for a second home, according to the Department of Justice.

The indictment was handed up in the Eastern District of Virginia, where former FBI Director James Comey was indicted Sept. 25 on charges of lying to congress and obstruction of justice.

“No one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public’s trust,” US Attorney Lindsey Halligan said in a statement. “The facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served.”

CNN’s Anderson Cooper Skewers NY AG Letitia James For Her Prosecution Of Trump: ‘Not a great look’

CNN star Anderson Cooper took a shot at newly indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday, saying her previous vow on the campaign trail to zero in on President Trump was “not a great look” — as the Dem pol now insists that the charges against her are “political retribution.”

Cooper brought up James’ conversation with a community activist who asked in 2018 if James was ready to sue the president — then in his first term in the Oval Office — as she ran for the state’s chief law enforcement position.

“And she replied, ‘Oh we’re gonna definitely sue him, we’re gonna be a real pain in the ass, he’s gonna know my name personally,’” Cooper recalled.

“I mean that’s not a great look for somebody who has just been elected, who just been campaigning, who hasn’t even looked, I guess deeply, at any evidence,” the host stated, though PolitiFact cites that the video likely was shot while she was still on the campaign trail.

James went on to sue the Trump Organization on claims the company inflated the value of the real estate empire, leading to a judgment against the president and hundreds of millions in fines.

The Democrat also sued the Trump administration numerous times during his first stint as president and has continued to ramp up legal pressure against the White House since his return to office this year.

Meanwhile, James, who was federally indicted on charges of bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution in Virginia Thursday, claims the charges against her are pure politics.

NY AG Letitia James Using Hunter Biden’s Ex-Defense Attorney to fight bombshell Federal Indictment

New York Attorney General Letitia James’ defense attorney against mortgage fraud allegations is high-profile DC lawyer Abbe Lowell — known for repping other prominent Democrats including Hunter Biden.

James was hit with a bombshell federal indictment in Virginia Thursday, accusing her of lying on forms when she took out a loan for a home in the Old Dominion State, netting her $19,000 in savings.

Lowell, a go-to attorney for leading Dems in legal trouble, issued a statement defending the Empire State’s top lawyer against the accusations, saying she “flatly and forcefully denies these charges.”

Lowell represented ex-Sen. Bob Menendez, who was convicted of bribery and corruption.

James was hit with one count of bank fraud and one count of making false statements to a financial institution, for which she faces up to 60 years in prison and a fine of up to $2 million if convicted.

Prosecutors claim she bought a three-bedroom, one-bathroom Norfolk, Va., home in August 2020 for roughly $137,000 and took a $109,600 loan for it, which barred her from renting it out.

On loan documents and related forms, she said it would be a secondary residence, but on tax forms, she designated the home as a rental investment property on which she made thousands of dollars, prosecutors alleged.

Lowell also defended Hunter Biden, who was convicted of illegally owning a gun while hooked on drugs and who pleaded guilty in a tax case. The former first son was pardoned by President Joe Biden before he left office.

How Indicted NY AG Letitia James Will Pay For Her Legal Defense — Which Could Cost Up To $10M: experts

ALBANY – New York Attorney General Letitia James could soak taxpayers for millions of dollars in legal bills as she fights her new federal indictment — but she says she won’t be tapping into the $10 million state legal defense slush fund set up for that purpose.

Instead, she’s turning to the national Democratic Attorneys General Association to cover her legal defense bills against the bombshell mortgage fraud charges filed against her Thursday – which could run in the millions, according to experts.

“I think all in, it’s probably going to be in the range of $5 to $10 million,” former prosecutor Neama Rahmani told The Post Friday.

James has brought on high-profile defense attorney Abbe Lowell, who could be billing over $1,000 an hour and taking a $1 million retainer fee based on the going rate for top lawyers, Rahmani said.

But legal eagles also said that some lawyers may even take up the case pro-bono given its high-profile nature and some left-leaning attorneys’ political convictions to stand up for James, a Democrat.

On her 2024 financial disclosure provided to New York’s ethics panel, she reported also making between $5,000-$20,000 from her adjunct professor gig at Columbia University and $20,000 to $50,000 on her rental property in Brooklyn.

DAGA, a well-funded Dem AG’s group, announced the creation of its legal defense fund late last month that James and other officials could dip into.

It remains unclear as to who is funding the effort and how much it has in the bank for James at this point.

Indicted Letitia James Is Housing ‘fugitive’ Grandniece In Her Virginia Home: Report

Indicted New York state Attorney General Letitia James has housed a “fugitive” relative in her Virginia house for five years, according to reports.

The under-fire prosecutor’s grandniece, Nakia Thompson, has been living with her three children in James’ three-bedroom property in Norfolk since 2020.

It has been revealed that Thompson is officially listed as an “absconder” who is wanted by authorities in Forsyth County, North Carolina, for failing to finish her probation, court documents seen by the Daily Mail reveal.

“Ms. Thompson was sentenced to probation for misdemeanor convictions for assault and battery and trespassing, and has willfully avoided probation supervision,” Keith Acree from the North Carolina Department of Corrections told the Daily Mail.

“An absconder is considered a fugitive. Thompson faces arrest if she is located in North Carolina,” Acree added, saying that her crimes were considered low-level and thus “non-extraditable.”
