I bet the B1G is regretting signing those West coast schools now. I don't think have had a team travel from East to West and win a game yet...haven't looked it up, so could be wrong.

They're suffering from the same thing as the NFL with the West coast enigma. Teams that are in the Eastern time zone don't fair as well when they have to travel out West. Like I heard a stat once that only 1 in 4 from the East win those games.

Now UCLA has knocked one of their darlings out of the CFP and with Imdiana heading to Eugene this week, that's likely another team out. Yes, the B1G will cannabalize itself to some.degree like the SEC, but why set yourself up to fail?

FWIW - I bet the B1G picks up the last 2 from the Pac 12 and goes to 20 with 4 pods so teams.can go.back to.being more regional.

B10 would never stoop low enough to take the likes of Oregon St and Wazzu

If they were gonna do a WC "pod" they would need to expand to 24 so they could have 6 WC teams to play each other for 5 of their 9 games.

I just don't see many FB schools left on the WC that would really tick all the boxes for the B10.

Oddly enough, San Diego St blows away Oregon St and Wazzu in most academic rankings for STEM.

I could easily see them trying to get to 24 somehow though. That's where all this is going for the B10 and SEC anyway. Might as well get it over with.

In the end, both conferences will pick over the scraps of the ACC for future expansions. B10 will take Cal and Stanford plus a few other teams. Gives them 6 on the WC

What GT decides to do will be the key. Both conferences are gonna want them for multiple reasons. Whoever doesn't win the GT sweepstakes is going to make another crappy school very lucky with a P2 berth.

B10 didn't have much choice if they wanted to expand. They've mined every decent and some bad programs in the Midwest and Northeast. Who is left in that part of the country that brings anything to the table. They're blocked from getting ACC teams because of the buyout. The PAC10 was dying.

tOSU won at Washington just last week.

Minnesota beat ucla in Pasadena last year.

Washington did beat Michigan last year. And NW, but I don’t think that’s a surprise. UCLA beat Iowa in Pasadena, but I wouldn’t count Iowa as a real upset either

They’re never going to add Oregon State and Washington State. No one is. At this point the two are, unfortunately, destined to become pretty much mid-major level / Group of 5 level / Mountain West level programs.

Correct. And honestly kind of sad.

I do not know that much about Oregon St.

Wazzu on the other hand-for a program for who success has been fleeting-have a surprisingly robust and dedicated fan base.

Honestly, I feel horrible for the fans of both schools.. Face it, if Tennessee was not in the SEC then our beloved Vols would most likely be facing the same conundrum. Not exactly like East TN is a lucrative media market.

I understand what you are saying, but the ACC or the B10 would jump at the chance to have a Tennessee in their conference.

Totally see where you are coming from, but unlike Oregon St. and Wazzu, I think Tennessee is more of a national brand.

I mean how many O St. or Wazzu fans do you run into in the Eastern part of the US, yet you see tons of Vols fans out West.

Like Godfatha said, ACC and B1G would be salivating over UT if we left the SEC.

Must have been one helluva trip to make Penn St’s DC dumb enough to never consider spying the UCLA QB.

They are "rebuilding" the Pac 12, which is basically going to be the new Moutain West, with the Moutain West becoming.....a lesser Mountain West. My bet is eventually the Pac-12 will merge with the remaining MW to form what they originally were going to do...just add Oregon St. and Wazzu.

Losing in Eugene won’t knock IU out.

Which aucks because the IU schedule beyond is soft.
Home against Mich St, Wisconsin, and UCLA (thinking of going and rocking my Vols gear just, well you know...lol).
Road games at Maryland and Purdue.

That's right, after the trip to Eugene, they don't leave the state of Indiana except for Maryland.

They still play at Penn State too.

You would be surprised by the Wazzu fan base. Those folks are everywhere.

It's more complicated than saying " we have fans everywhere". The powers that be have decided that media markets are the key these days. Vols get East TN and a part of Nashville. Memphis might as well be another planet (thankfully). Not exactly one of the more lucrative areas on the planet.

By this point we are borderline blue blood because of our history. Top 15 program no doubt. Nothing is gonna happen to us.

I'm just saying that remove some of that history and we could have been in the same boat

It never made sense why the Mountain West didn't just merge and adopt the PAC name. The whole thing is dumb.

That's insane that road teams win less than half the time.
I think that fits across most conferences, regardless of the distances.

IIRC an article pointed out how Heupel's like 44% win rate on the road was still above average in the SEC. only two schools were above 50%, Bama and Georgia, and the average was right around 39 or 40%.
