Bama is gonna beat Vandy by 40 and get the same level of credit as if they just beat Ohio State. This is the classic Bama spot where they blow an opponent out of the water.

Bama to No. 8, in sorry but beating any Candy team at home is not impressive.
Sorry to quote myself but I knew they would get way too much credit for beating Vandy. I realize they didn’t win by 40 but the sentiment remains the same.

Just because we won doesn't mean I am not an idiot..I am just a correct idiot.
I agree watching the Titans play is like watching a bad high school team. I turned it off and told my wife they were one of the worst teams I had ever seen. I then saw the winning field goal on the NFL network. Don't know how the Cardinals managed to lose that game but I would struggle to not fire the coach if I was the owner of the Cardinals.

I think schedule (opponents) obviously have a lot to do with stats and how the game is played.

Mizzou’s offense runs 80.0 plays per game (weak schedule); their defense plays 50.4 plays per game. Going into last week’s games their defensive stop rate ranked 21st in the nation.

Our offense runs 76.6 plays per game; our defense runs 77.4 plays per game. Prior to last week’s slate of games our defensive stop rate ranked 84th in the nation.

Our run defense on a yards per attempt ranks 18th in the nation but 119th for attempts against us per game.

Mizzou’s run defense ranks 10th in the nation for yards per attempt; they are 1st in the nation for fewest runs per game defended. Weak opponents tend to favor the pass over the run but still overall their stop rate is decent.

We’ve played the 5th and 8th best rushing offenses in the conference so far, Mizzou has only played the 16th (the worst) rushing offense in the conference.

Arkansas is ranked as the 2nd best rushing offense in the conference so that may be something to keep an eye on.

Tim Banks previously has put a lot of stock in our defensive stop rate. I think it’s subpar right now aside from the schedule mostly due to perhaps some depletion in the DL ranks due to player availability and more drop off in depth quality than we may have enjoyed in the last couple of years.

Vanderbilt was the 8th most experienced team in the nation coming into the season, 10th on defense; we were 58th overall, 22nd on defense if everyone was healthy which they haven’t been. We’re at the point in the season where talent begins to trump experience. We’re the 16th most talented team; Vandy is 55th.

Arkansas is the 23rd most talented team but their experience on defense was 88th. MSU’s experience on defense was 20th best in the nation. Arkansas’s offense was 39th most experienced. Bobby revamped his defensive staff during the bye week so I’m not sure how that affects them. I think more than likely they’ll still be hobbled on that side of the ball.

On offense I think we’re a bit better plus we’re at home. On defense while our stop rate (#84) could use some improvement going forward, the Arkansas defensive stop rate is at #119. Knife, meet hot butter. jmo.

I need to point out how many times we have MS State a short field last week. Our O didn’t help our defense at all.
Also need to point out that Syracuse was humming with Angeli...that was a way better than average offense...UGA is UGA...and the two scrub teams scored a ton on the 3rd and 4th string, and UABs offense is not your typicalnscrub team offense, plus the ETSU coach said they threw a whole bunch of new stuff they put in just for our game....and MSU at home is not a crap offense either.

All that to say the numbers are kinda weirdly inflated. The defense is not playing great without the 4 injured starters...but they have done some great things despite those injured starters..

I will say that we are not a natural zone team...I think our players are just not made for it...it seems like they are thinking too much instead of reacting and it makes them more cautious and passive...and passivity is death to a defense.

Nice post.

Yeah from a schedule perspective some teams appear better than they are (Mizzou) and some worse.

Nonetheless, our schedule has not been that hard so far, especially with uga not being as formidable this year as years past.

We need to get off the field on third down better, is how I interpreted your stats about our defense. And be more disciplined, and consistently so. I also think some of the play calling could be better. Example: we ran stunts so many times on the dline against Miss st that it was creating easy 8-15 yard runs off tackle for them, which allowed them to dictate the pace of play in the first half when they were on offense. And we were the better team. If we had played them more straight up, got off the field more consistently, and worked up a lead before half time, it may never have ended up as close as it was.

Wife has my family going to the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord tomorrow for Fall Break. Any good food around Concord or Charlotte that is family friendly?
Gotta hit up the Smoke pit in Concord for BBQ. Fantastic spot. Then if y’all are into Thai/Sushi, hit up Sabaidee off Copperfield BLVD, freaking good food.

For those who really love or otherwise pay attention and watch NFL games, do you like the NFL more today, or say 10 years ago?

Parity isn't what it used to be. But you still get some of those any given Sunday moments like the giants beating the chargers. Lots of bad teams though.

The top teams are still fun to watch, especially the bills and lions. I'd say I like it the same as a decade ago. But I'm a serious college football fan, just a casual NFL fan.
