Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I 'members when those UCF fans were shizzing on Hype on his way out, saying how he was holding them back 😆😅🤣🤣🤣
That UCF team lost their entire roster when Gus left. Frost having them at 3-2 and playing competitive against everyone is a miracle. They also have the worst OL in college football. I have a feeling UCF will be much improved in a year and surprise some folks.

All yall acting like Arch is a complete dud after 5 games, petty af lol

He was never going to immediately live up to the insane amount of hype he got (whose the last first year underclassman that took the SEC by storm?), but he can still become a great qb, similar to Nico but probably even more so because of his name.

Physically has all the tools. Mentally still adjusting to live SEC ball. Team needs to help him out by being able to run the ball so he’s not scrambling for his life and feeling like he has to make the play of the game every play. Defense also did not do him any favors in the swamp. Yeah Texas not the preseason #1 they were given (not like they got a whole lot more right - and we’re not even half way through season yet - a lot of football to be played), they probably lose 4 games this year, but I could easily see it being 3 with Mateer out, and I just don’t see them losing to tamu at home to make it 5.

Would yall be surprised if they and he got better as the season goes on? I’m guessing they look better by end of season and certainly by next year than they do now.

Let’s revisit at the end of the season. Their schedule hasn’t been very hard and is very manageable but they are still going to drop 2-3. I thought they were going 10-2 last year as a shoe in and finished 8-4.
That is why it said current pecking order. If I was creating a list that said "Final Standings" then the list could certainly be different. I would then need to look at every schedule and project. My list was not projections. Hence the use of the word current.

Tennessee UGA and bama are the top 3
1A,1B and 1C

They all can score their way out of bad defense it appears compared to the others

A&M is close but I think their Oline is weak and those top 3 can get after them

JMO
TIFWIW

Florida is dangerous
Oklahoma is dangerous also but I think the top 3 are above them
Valid. My assessment was based on what we have seen so far was that A&M has a defense that is equivalent to UTs offense and A&M offense has shown to be slightly better than our defense. If UT gets healthy on defense then we could for sure move to the top of that list.

He’s a RS SO in year 3 of that offense and was the No. 1 recruit in the nation. It’s fair to say he’s a dud up to this point. He doesn’t elevate the Longhorns in any way.

Watching him play is evidence that he is just not a good football player. Bottom line. His last name has done him a massive disservice. He will improve. Obviously. But he just simply not physically, mentally, or instinctively all that talented.

@Enki_Amenra looks like they shut down the car gathering this weekend.

They did. Glad I didnt go to it last night. Looks like a bunch of idiots that don't know how to act in public. Hope they never have that show here again.

Adding the word ms bottom line or simply to your sentence doesn’t make it a fact and I do not agree with the statements.

He’s pretty talented physically. Throws a pretty ball. Can get yards with his legs.

Mentally (and maybe this is the surprising one with his family background), he’s got room to grow for sure. I don’t blame him for not being able to figure out OSUs complex def on the road in his first game as a starter. In the UF game, it looked like he made some desperation plays. I think it would have looked much better if Texas had any semblance of a run game (that’s on Sark). I only watched bits and pieces of the other games, but they didn’t win those by as much as they should have.

Can’t teach instinct. I haven’t watched enough to say he does or doesn’t have “it.” But 5 games into his first year starting, I’m reserving judgement, for now.

The balance of our season is on Tim Banks. Just yesterday I saw half the SEC has better performance on D than ours. Most had worse natural talent. With a few of the losing teams, their D's kept them in the game.

UT with 5 games played - Defense
29 PPG - #13 in the SEC, only Arkansas is worse and three of the D coaches were just fired.
373.4 YPG - #12 in the SEC, only Arkansas and Kentucky give up more.

With the #1 O nationally at 51 PPG and #6 at 536.4 YPG (which could have been #1 if we left the first team in longer) - we know they are THE best in the SEC at offense.

It would be very sad if Heup and the team are not able to take advantage of what he has put together on O due to crap schemes, calls, and player performances on D. The D roster is better than mid-SEC grade talent wise. We need performance to match like a dozen others of our peer. Start by not overthinking everything. Start by playing less pure zone in the secondary. Start by not having CB's stand 10 yards away from the LOS. Start by having enough guys in the box subject to opponent formation and tendencies.

If we are totally dependent on the performance of a couple of players who have been injured - we are not developing the talent well in addition to scheme and calls. Get it done, Banks.

I will say after watching a few games for each SEC team now...

Ty Simpson is better than most want to admit, I think him waiting his turn and just now (in year 4) getting to be the starter was a smart move. I do however think he's more of a Mac Jones, AJ McCarron, or John Parker Wilson time QB than Tua, Hurts, or Bryce. (Game Manager) He could make the NFL and might even start there with the right team/coach picking him.

Texas and Arch will be good, eventually. But with 2 losses already and OU as well as at Georgia and vs A&M still left to play...don't expect them in the playoffs this year.

The biggest ? still unanswered in the SEC, is Missouri legit or a pretender? Well they host Bama this Saturday at noon...

OU plays Texas Saturday too...don't think they're a pretender, but will be curious to see how they fair without their starting QB against an equally talented team.

Ole Miss & A&M both are in the driver's seat I think...OU has a far more difficult schedule though. Ole Miss last 2 ranked games as of today are at Georgia and at OU and they're back to back weeks. Don't play Bama, Vols, A&M or Texas though...at this point seems a guarantee they make the playoffs. A few upsets that could be lurking...vs Florida 2nd to last game of season and the Egg bowl at Miss State to end the year.

Georgia is kind of in the same boat as us...very young/inexperienced team but the talent and coaching is there. They could be undefeated had a few things went their way in the loss...but could also have 2 losses as well. Unlike us we've been getting healthier as the year has gone on and getting players back, they seem to be losing players each week. Ole Miss and Texas still left that are ranked...and I think we all feel like Texas isn't likely to go into Athens and beat them with what we've seen so far.

I think these teams are all in the "better come to play, or they'll beat you" group/tier. Vandy, LSU, Florida, South Carolina, Miss State. But they all seem to have to play pretty flawless to beat teams of equal or better talent and when they don't...it can get ugly fast.

Bottom Feeders...Auburn, Arkansas, and Kentucky I think Auburn is borderline with the tier above...since both their losses were single possession games on the road BUT they now get Georgia and Missouri back to back coming off their bye this weekend. Still have to play at Vandy and end the season against Bama. Kentucky could legit have 1 win left on the season...hosting Texas, Vols, at Auburn, vs Florida, vs TN Tech, at Vandy and at Louisville (4-1 right now). Oddly enough...though them hosting Texas on the 18th might be an upset alert...depends on how Arch & company look against OU this weekend. Last we have Arkansas...that game against Notre Dame got Sam fired and has this team looking like they've quit. But a bye week and coming to Neyland with Petrino as your new HC...I'm so happy we also had a bye week before this one. I think the hogs are in a bad spot...don't think Petrino is gonna save them this season either. They could lose 5 more games...they could also lose every game left. Going to be interesting to see how they play Saturday.
