Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I have seen enough games to construct an accurate SEC pecking order for this season:

Texas A&M
Alabama
Georgia
Tennessee
Ole Miss
Oklahoma
I

Missouri
Vanderbilt
LSU
Mississippi State
Florida
South Carolina
Texas

Auburn

Same thing is said every year about A&M and they still end up 8-4.

AM had the best DL in sec. but qb play is still erratic. They'll be there near the top for a title.

I told you all my son was playing his first yr in high school football as the starting JV center. They are 5-1 and outscored their opponents 201-33
while varsity is also 5-1 having outscored opponents 241-88. The only game either team has lost is to one of the best teams in North Carolina that is in a higher classification. Our qb is committed to Virginia.

Good thing that what happened with different players in previous years does not in fact dictate current players and teams ability. They have a stout defense and a good enough offense to be a good team. They also have a much better coaching staff than the days of Jimbo waking the sideline.

They are definitely not a team that can't be beaten. Those years with Alabama/Georgia are over. Anybody in that top group can end up being the best team in the league by the end of the season.

Does 10-2 with a loss @bama get us to the playoffs?

There could be a lot of SEC teams with 2 losses this year
Easily.

We weren't even close to missing the playoffs last year with 2 losses.

It's the 3-loss teams that will have to battle for potentially 1 spot.

Don't overthink it. A ton of cannibalization is left to be had within the league.

Let’s revisit at the end of the season. Their schedule hasn’t been very hard and is very manageable but they are still going to drop 2-3. I thought they were going 10-2 last year as a shoe in and finished 8-4.

Tennessee UGA and bama are the top 3
1A,1B and 1C

They all can score their way out of bad defense it appears compared to the others

A&M is close but I think their Oline is weak and those top 3 can get after them

JMO
TIFWIW

Florida is dangerous
Oklahoma is dangerous also but I think the top 3 are above them

You're correct but 6 SEC teams with a 10-2 record all aren't getting in... That's a dream for some...

Hopefully the defense figured out a few things during the bye. Hopefully healthier and ready to put it on them the rest of the season.
I believe CJH dictates the defense that we run. When he has a fully capable offense, I think he tells Banks to sell out and take risks. We generated a lot of sacks and turnovers in 2021 and 2022 this way. Right now, we are getting the TFL but not the turnovers due to starting DB's being out. It's risk/reward. We played far more conservative (take away the run) in 23/24 because I believe CJH felt that was the best way for us to win. I think we are giving up more yards and points because CJH believes we can outscore anyone. If we start getting 2+ turnovers a game, watch out. I expect we will against all teams not named Alabama and Florida on our schedules. Those two will play a conservative gameplan to attempt and keep our offense on the sideline.
