Tennessee Lady Vol News

I wish there was someway to close the "Ruby Indefinitely Suspended" thread. By constantly keeping it near the top of the LV threads, it looks like it is still unresolved and infrequent visitors continually give their opinion about it. She has already taken her punishment, and Coach was pleased the way the dealt with the punishment enough to let her back onto the team. There is no need to continue to highlight this subject, but apparently mods just don't mod around here.

Where is “Husky Nan” when ya need her? @Freak

Thought this would be something fun to look at while we are nearing closer to the season. Really excited to see how Janiah plays this season. Seems like she’s really shown out at practice.

Should be a fun opening day game with #8 NC State.

Ah man, I just noticed that the Vandy girl transferred there. Unfortunate that our new roster starts the regular season against a girl that beat us twice last year.

They also return a 6'6 center and a 6'5 forward. An early test for Jersey and/or Janiah in filling the role that Hollingshead's graduation left open. Hopefully they pass with flying colors, and we run the legs off their interior players. (they also hav a 6'3 center that we might see some of, if so)

One of the old guns will emerge as a 40% 3 pt shooter this year

Very true

The reason the 3 is as difficult as it is goes beyond "bc its further"
To understand this concept is to experience it...
The way I teach,,,"shooting a 3" :

Comfort range is the point at which you have to change something in the mechanics of your shot to make up for the extra distance.

Personally, as a shooter my "comfort range" is to the elbow (19 foot).
The arch is 21 foot
since the 3pt arc is beyond my comfort zone, my mechanics have to differ to give myself a chance at making it.

So if the female player I am working with has to change her mechanics in order to make a 3pt when it is beyond her comfort range...that takes getting in the gym and muscle-memorying" a whole new different shot

and as @lvocd said,,,that takes above and beyond,,,dedication...
Who are you looking to step up Coach Jumper?

Do you know how many times Tennessee has beat Vandy? If Tennessee is healthy and the staff has figured out how to put together all this talent they will beat NC State.

It’s a good early season game for us. Historically NC State starts the season slow and rounds into form. They didn’t look very good at all their first few games last season.

They do return some size but those players did not see the floor much. They graduated all their really good guards. Jones and Brooks are quality and Pierre we know is good but I think we have more talent this season.

ESPN always does some weird things in between good content so you have to respect it in a sense I guess… like if they put Stanford’s three freshmen there’s no reason at all not to include Jaida Civil and Deniya Prawl along with Mia Pauldo for Tennessee. Coach Caldwell has spoken directly about all three in addition to the local sportswriters that have seen them in action during practice. I actually think what Coach Caldwell said about Jaida Civil “possibly being one of the best players on the team” which is #7 according to ESPN preseason rankings is one of the highest compliments any freshmen player in the country has been given by a head coach this offseason. She also talked about Civil competing against Talaysia Cooper in practice.
Civil could win FOY in the SEC if she stays healthy and continues to develop.
