I get what you're saying. You hope our signees are more than just mercenaries going to the highest bidder. I think the pushback was over the phrase "smoke and mirrors scheme" which some took to imply you meant there is something unseemly about NIL deals.Completely missed the point.
In today's recruiting world, I would say that competitive NILs are a necessary but not sufficient condition. It is the price of entry but you "seal the deal" with program considerations. However, no program is so great it can just rely on its reputation alone to sign to top talent.
