Whoa National Guard Troops going to Memphis

It may be a political stunt but if the deployment helps some kid play safely on his playground, I’m all for it.

Fair. Im positive it will help in the short term. Anything that can get more local policing resources to high crime areas will be a win.

Where Ive been harping on this entire time is how do we make sure there is a fair and proportionate amount of public safety and econ development resources to enter a struggling metro long term. That will help improve this situation long after DJT gets distracted by another shiny object....

We're on our way to the Pony...

You was gonna be a singer, and a big movie star

But you can’t catch no break baby, and Hollywood is hard

Now you work down at the Pony on highway 78

Now you’re dancin for your dollar, just tryin to pay for college, and Bigorangemojo just gave you his last five, as the bouncers throw him out the door

Never been there. I have been to the Mount Moriah Performing Arts Center before it closed....

I figured out how to get into Platinum Plus when I was 15 or ao. You walk by vehicles. Bump into them and hope the car alarm goes off. The bouncer goes out and checks on the vehicle and was able to sneak in with friends without paying the cover charge...

You'd be surprised at how much certain military units train in US cities. Been doing it for decades.
In this case, it seems like the training referred to is a part of the current natty guard deployment, so designed to bring military into a civilian role and in conflict with civilians, a lot like martial law.

Trump thinks the country has been invaded in some way that requires military attention.

Two thoughts.

1. We are spending a ton on military. We know we will never force defense to be financially efficient. Would be nice to get some ROI on that and to assist locals.

2. The federal overreach is really, really concerning.
Law enforcement and military are two different skill sets. Help with more people trained for law enforcement would surely be appreciated, though, in places like Memphis.

Absolutely they do. Local cops are being diverted to state highways. Every local cop on a state highway is one not in a high crime area. Drugs are huge cause of crime, and trooper saturation absolutely impacts trafficking of drugs. Double digit reduction in crime as result of most current saturation.

Not a coincidence that interstate shootings declined 80% during 2023 saturation.

But go ahead and defend 6 out of 1200 troopers in a 7 county region....

Gov Lee is sending 300 troopers. Guess he is blowing money since they dont impact crime...
As someone who worked in TN LE for 30 years, if you ask a state trooper what his affect on city crime is they will laugh in your face. They focus on interstate traffic, wrecks and some amounts of drug/human trafficking. They do not do anything in neighborhoods where gangs and drugs and violent crimes occur

Every time a local cop is on the state highway working a wreck/traffic is a moment they arent patroling areas of high crime.

Nobody said the THP are the ones going into the hood and patroling but having them on the state highways allows local cops to do that....

But dont believe me. Only the head of the THP said the same thing that extra staffing on the highways

"We need to have more troopers in spots across the state, particularly in places with elevated crime rates. And we are doing that. We are committing troopers to Shelby County. In 2023, more troopers were placed in the Memphis District to help local law enforcement, and the recent increase came straight from the governor."

“Tens of millions” lol.

So, you are saying the head of THP is lying and the numbers they are providing are lies.

You'd rather partisan hack and accuse your fellow professionals of lying..

Well over 10 million street value in this district in just 2 busts involving several hundred pounds of cocaine and meth

local agencies have jurisdictions to work wrecks as well. THP only works serious wrecks or fatalities on those roads. City Police and county sheriffs have been doing that for decades. It has nothing to do with crime in your cesspool of a city, it’s the leaders and people who live there. Memphis PD and Shelby county sheriff are bleeding officers because they have no support and no one wants to work there to begin with. Hell they even lowered standards to allow criminals and gangbangers to become police there

Partisan hack? Lol I don’t think either party is worth a crap. AndTHP is saying whatever political thing the governor wants them to. 10 million street value in coke and meth is nothing. You should see what the vice lords and Mexican gangs pull down throughout the state passing thru. But only Memphis has the crime rate it does.

Yes, locals have to work them too. My point is they have to work all of them with 6 troopers in a 7 county region. Even you know that's not a good idea (for those in surrounding counties as well).

This morning for example, I saw two wrecks on the interstate. Instead of hvaing 5-6 MPD squad cars working it, it was THP. That means the other 5 MPD cars can actually be in the hood. Just having deterrance stops a lot of crime

I'll take that back. That was too far. Had rough weeks and took that a step too far. I should be able to have a differnce of opinion and not be an a--hole...

Memphis has its own issues which there is no excuse for. But, we both know 6/1200 troopers for a 7 county region is nuts....

definitely saw some more cops and highway patrol out this morning. Maybe they will stop the people going 90 MPH on I-240

Maybe this can help:

Also, it would be great if the enforcement surge leads to higher expectations by residents for safety in their neighborhoods. They should be demanding more from local government.
