Vol coaches record against the Tide

You know Kiffen only had 1 shot at them? A blocked FG was the only thing that saved the Gumps. And that was at bama!
I still put that 09 loss squarely on Kiffin. We had no business even competing in that game, to his credit, but absolutely botched the ending. We were driving with relative ease on that last drive, then he inexplicably let the game clock run down to attempt a 44 yard field goal. Then, after the game, he said Daniel Lincoln had been dealing with a little bit of a leg issue and was having trouble getting lift on his kicks.

What's with all these old threads getting necro'd this week? It's weird. Did people suddenly discover the search function or something?
I meant to post this in a different thread actually. I happened to have pulled this one up when searching coaching records against Alabama. Meant to post it in the recruiting thread.

Mt Cody blocked that kick if I remember

Coach H has climbed the Florida and Bama teams at home. We’re gonna have to get it done on the road, and sooner or later he’s gonna have to beeat Georgia.

I will add only one caveat to your excellent research. I know you stated that Fulmer caught the Tide in a down era and could only play the team you saw, but, it was an epically bad decade for Alabama. They were an amazing 69-52 during those 10 years, which included 3 losing seasons and one 6-6 season. In 2000, they only won THREE games. If you compare the first four years of the tenure of Philip Fulmer and Josh Heupel there is an interesting comparison. Overall, Philip Fulmer was 38-9-1 in his first four years. He was 0-4 against Florida and 2-1-1 against Alabama. Josh Heupel is, as of this game, 33-13 overall. He is 2-2 against both Florida and Alabama. They both are very good coaches, but the item that tilts it a little more toward CJH is this. Philip Fulmer inherited a very loaded team full of players that he had recruited himself as the OC. Josh Heupel inherited a dumpster fire that a Bama bum Beldar annihilated before leaving.
Yes, but Fulmer took over a completely developed program that had won 3 SEC championships in the last 6 years. Heupel took over a program that was laid out on the morgue table waiting for the embalmer.

& CJH has coached with inherited sanctions hanging over the team since he's been here and navigated that with much aplomb IMO..

Hence the last two sentences of my post?

I agree 100%. I can’t remember a coach that has done more with so much less to start with. The closest would possibly be Johnny Majors. He was left a destroyed program by another Bama person , Bill Battle, and got it turned back around. It took him 5 years, but he did it. Fans now would have had him fired before he had the chance.

You are exactly right. There were players when Majors first got here were starters and by year 3 they were recruited over. The team was bad, you could wait till kickoff time and buy tickets for a 1$ or 2 and sometimes ppl/scalpers giving them away. Our talent top to bottom then, was way down.
