Vanderbilt talking and targeting national title in football

I know most here will laugh but going forward Vanderbilt is going to be a competitive program. They are now using their academic degree integrity to persuade 3 & 4 year players to transfer in, finish with a VU degree or MBA & complete their career there. This year they have 28 4 & 5+ year players which makes them one of the most mature teams in the league. It shows with how physical they are.

Their natl title hunt starts Saturday and they’ll be facing a tough, fired up bama squad that will be looking for revenge. They win they’re the real deal. Lose and they’ll have a tough row to hoe. Too bad they both can’t lose but I’ll never pull for bama.

If Indiana of all programs can make it to the playoffs, anything can happen. This is the age of the transfer portal and more programs that didnt have a chance are now competitive. Vandy is in a good place right now, but this end of the schedule is going to be tough.

I’ve watched every Vandy game this season and I’m telling ya—this ‘Dores team is a dang good one and will really surprise some people here by the end of the season. They might not win this Saturday, but I can easily see them going 9-3 or even 10-2 this year. Those waiting for them to “come back down to earth” might be waiting a while. The Tennessee vs Vandy matchup to end the year may have some big CFP implications.

I think it would be far more interesting for the Tennessee-Vandy game to actually mean something—maybe the winner gets a playoff spot and the loser is out? Would be more satisfying to beat the ‘Dores with those stakes on the line than just another game with little to no drama. Might actually make this a legit rivalry.
You don’t want that…and like many who were quick to dismiss MS state and mark it as an automatic W, you cannot count your chickens before they hatch. Vandy cost us a shot at the SECCG in 2016. Probably would have got smoked by Bama again, but at least we would have made an appearance. Crazy we have not been to one in almost 20 years. I could see Vandy being a good program. Great city, best area HS talent in the state, and a very prestigious academic program. It could happen and it would suck for UT. When Franklin left for PSU I was relieved. He was a real problem at Vandy. Little Mason tried but he just wasn’t as good of a coach. I think Lea might be pretty legit, and he played at Vandy, and in this NIL era it certainly is plausible.

get out there on that limb

The Alabama defense has shown three weak spots this year. The first is against the run, sitting 75th in the nation in opponent rushing yards per game. Vanderbilt is great on the ground, and having a mobile quarterback has been difficult for Bama in recent years. Second, while being solid against the pass, the team is also second in the nation in opponent passing plays per game and 43rd in yards per attempt. Vanderbilt is great at moving the ball in chunks. Finally, Alabama is 89th in the nation on defensive third-down percentage. Vanderbilt is third in the nation in third-down conversions. This is going to be a close one, but the Commodores get the upset on the road.

I think Bama’s defense could struggle stopping Vandys offense. If so VU will dominate TOP again. Not convinced this is a great Alabama defense. Add to it Vandys defense really brings pressure, unlike Ga does.

The biggest surprise I’ve seen this year in the SEC has been GA’s inability to affect the passer. FSU really pressured Simpson but nobody else has even tried to. What I’ve seen of VU is they’ll come after you.
