Wake Forest scores in a run on the first play with the RB stretching out his arm to get there…but he’s not getting up.

And their starting QB got hurt again on the play. So now they’re now potentially down a starting QB AND a starting RB going into an actually winnable stretch of 2-3 winnable games (Virginia Tech, winless Oregon State).

Tech made/got some very fortunate breaks…including that dreadful no call on off sides that would have given Wake a first down and likely set them up to win this game. Very luck, GT. 🍀

My guess is the coach felt they couldn’t continue to stop Georgia Tech inside the 35 (and definitely inside from the 2)…plus that was Wake Forest’s first TD of the entire second half.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter, that game should have already been over.

To be fair, it should have already been over and they should have won that game.

Wake caught GT jumping pretty far offsides on 3rd and 5 with 1:40 left and no GT timeouts. Wake’s QB hurried and snapped the ball and the referee refused to call the penalty…essentially giving GT the ball back with a free timeout.

They also gave GT a phantom first down. It wouldve been 4th and a much longer field goal if they had spotted the ball correctly. Horrible, horrible officiating there at the end.

That’s some awful referee work. Looking at the remaining schedule, there’s a very good chance of that also being the difference between a smaller school like this getting to a bowl game (and the extra payout for the program) versus topping out at 5 wins.

That said…who wants to see a video of all the Wake Forest students that were ready to rush the field hanging their heads, filing out of the stadium sadly AND having to figure out what they’re all going to do with all the toilet paper they took out of the package to roll their campus quad with?…I kinda do.
