Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

i think id like to work at a bookstore. Maybe by the time I retire they will still exist.
I think bookstores will always exist. Some stubborn people like me refuse to buy copies of digital books. There’s just no replacing the feeling of having a copy of a real book.

Stores like Books-a-million/Barnes and Noble/Amazon and other big corporations have done a number on smaller bookstores.

If you like to read, please support local bookstores. Knoxville has a few smaller bookstores that are awesome.

Union Avenue Books has a fantastic selection and they have sales all the time.

I'll never retire. . . not by choice, 😂

If I could? . . the next post you'd see from me would be sent from somewhere far, far away.

- A door-to-door salesman stopped by my girlfriend's house when I was 19. I was the only one there, so he convinced me to buy a roth IRA from him (Modern Woodsmen of America). I only had $75 to start it with, but I've maxxed it out every year since then (except for about 4yrs around when I died and came back to life and the years after).

The max amount has gone up over the years. When I first started I could only put $2k/yr in it, then $4k. Now I can put $7k/yr in it, but have only done about $4-$6k since I was revived. I need to look at how much is in it now. I may be able to retire in about 10/yrs.

If I had any advice to give anyone, especially under the age of 30 - get yourself a Roth IRA, tell no soul about it, not your wife, not your momma, no one. Max it out every year. Never, ever, ever take a penny out of it, no mateer how broke your are. Thank me in your mid-50s.
Good stuff. I retired at 58, 3 years ago. Little earlier than I thought I would. Did pretty much what you suggest. One thing I will add that I wished someone had told me about earlier is maxing out a Health Savings Account. Max that puppy out every year and invest inside of it. 100% tax free withdrawals for medical expenses. When I need @Glitch hips, I can pay for it!

I love what I do and wanna keep it up another 20 years or so.

*that way I can put roundabouts all over the state

That was them...I usually just make up my own assumptions LOL

Pretty sure this '26 class we put all the eggs in one basket at RB (Hiter) and a few other bigger name recruits had already went elsewhere by the time he picked Michigan. But we have a young group outside Star and all of them could return...so unless someone hits the portal RB room isn't going to need a ton of bodies, expecting us to only take 1 if any until we see if anyone is leaving.
You mean you're able to make your own mind up about things without having to be told what to think? Unique skill! Joking, but I agree with you. I think whether or not we hit the portal for a back depends on whether or not we get one in this class. I see us adding one guy either way.

I wish I had known that 2 decades before my main event with the grim reaper a few years ago, 😂

Lowe’s will 100% be my retirement job. I’ll be doing house projects anyway, so the discount will make it cheaper.

Win-win
I retired 8 years back and started a small business. My last choice is to ever go back to someone else setting my schedule and being paid for the hours on the clock instead of being paid for work completed. JMO, TIFWIW

Liked for the sentiment, which is 100% spot on. Get in early, get in often, don’t take it out. (Go ahead…)

But, you don’t “buy” an IRA. An IRA is an investment account/vehicle - you can hold all manner of assets (e.g.; stocks, bonds, funds, metals) purchased within it.

“Roth” is one type of IRA with tax advantages specific to it that differentiate it from “Traditional”; namely pre-tax vs post-tax contributions.

Yeah my biggest regret is not realizing this earlier, I've been playing catchup since...but thankfully get a matched 401k to contribute to...still have my Roth IRA though, anytime I change jobs the 401k gets dumbed there if new company doesn't offer 401k to roll into.

Even setup the wife with her own Roth IRA...only sadly not able to max it out.

You’re talking about another type of IRA which is the “Rollover” IRA. Yes, you can roll your 401k into this type of IRA - but if they were traditional pre-tax 401k contributions (most are) you will have to pay tax before you convert to a Roth.

Another type of IRA is the “Spousal” IRA, where a spouse without “earned income” can have contributions made on their behalf into their own IRA by their spouse who does earn income. My wife has one of these.

Yeah good point, didn’t think about that~ our backups have played a lot compared to others at this point
I think Heup played 16 true freshmen in the 1st half against UGA?

I also think about how we BROUGHT it to UGA and how that was a totally different level than what we saw against ETSU, Cuse and UAB.

If we can come out guns blazin again, I think state is cooked.

Just had my two week follow up on hip replacement #2. They said I am clear to get back to kicking *** at the nearest WH with no restrictions.

Another is the backdoor IRA. Not as well known and not used in a lot of situations. That being said my wife and I use this method.

If the Army wanted me to retire, they'd issue me a retirement...
