Momentum. UF had it, UT is bleeding it

This is the biggest thing for me. I think UF would be better off firing Napier now if they are going to do it. Starters and rotational players would be much less likely to enter right now with so much of the season ahead of them. Even on a bad team, you still want to play.

But if you fire Napier the first week of November, you would likely see a mass exodus of players with only 4 games remaining and guys trying to get a head start on looking for a new team. Florida could be really thing the last few weeks of the regular season.
if you are UF you wait until after the 5th game to fire. otherwise you let all those starters take a redshirt on the their way out.

the portal is going to hurt them no matter when they fire Napier, its just a matter of how bad and when.

Thinking like a player, knowing they may fire him after the fifth game, do I sit out the fifth game to preserve the redshirt?

Do the players feel loyal to Napier? Do they really like him?

I wonder how many (if any) would portal because BN is fired?

I think the only reason he's still there is because he's well-liked by the players and admin, supposedly. His team really did keep playing hard last year after that bad start.

If his personality was more like Mullen's he would have been fired midseason last year, regardless of what the buyout was.

My friend has a business in Gainesville. Sunday night it was broken into. Nothing stolen but the Criminals left 4 UF season tickets.
Yikes. Prayers for your friend. Probably would have preferred something was stolen.

I just read that Shane Matthews said on his podcast Billy gets the whole year. Florida fans are in denial.

DJ Lagway is in a boot this week. No joke. Kid may not play the whole season at this rate.

He's setting up to red shirt. His NFL stock is in the toilet right now and he needs to add another full college season at a different school or under entirely new coaches to breathe life back into it.

If you’re saying Napier sucks and is completely unproven, you’d be right.

But saying Lagway sucks shows you watched very little of him play.

He was 6-0 as a starter and made a handful of wow plays every game. Did he have some bad picks, sure. But generally, he looked phenomenal and played on one leg, and was unable to showcase his running ability which will open up even more in the passing game for him.

Update: LAGWAY SUCKS

He’s also just not that good. Lots of talent but not a good QB. Terrible decision making. Inability to process what he’s seeing. A walking turnover machine.

Isn't he only a sophomore? He could take two more years to prepare and up his stock even without redshirting

If he shows up somewhere else next year and lives up to the hype he and his folks can say that his bad showing at UF the first three games of this year was a combination of his trying to play hurt and that the team (meaning Napier) did not use his skill set to maximum advantage.

That's why his folks will tell him to get another season under his belt, and best path is to redshirt.
Do you think DJ has the sort of NIL deals that continue to pay him monthly if he redshirts? I don't. I figure he has to play to keep getting those checks. It's why we haven't seen mass exoduses to the portal on teams who've already fired coaches. And DJ is supposed to play versus Texas. Billy said he would. He said he'd been practicing all week.

Had not considered that. Really don't know.

Having said that, if he and his team is convinced that he has real NFL potential, giving up approx. $2 mill now for tens if not hundreds of times that is well worth it.

That would be foolish at this point. That NFL money is far from guaranteed given how he's played of late, and his injury troubles. Two million could generate a healthy annual income in capital gains and interest for the rest of his life if invested wisely.

It seems to me that there are quite a few talented QBs taking the NIL money to go to programs that do not have a great history of developing passers. That might have something to do with the fact the NFL draft is so much weaker in terms of QBs present-day vs historically.
