Bruce Pearl To Retire from Auburn

I understand wanting to retire with a lot of money at 65....but LOL to retire to run for Senate and force Auburn to name your son on staff as the interim is an all time classic move. Only in Alabama...

Eh. I disagree. I don’t think any coach, regardless of how successful, should have that right because most of the time it’s a huge miss. You should have input, but the decision shouldn’t be yours. I don’t want Rick picking his successor either.

It depends on what his bosses want. If the AD/administration come to a coach and say "Hey Coach, when you retire, we want you to pick who succeeds you" then that coach has "earned the right" to do it.

The timing of Bruce's announcement is certainly curious. Very much like Tony Bennett last year, and kind of forcing UVA's hand to promote Ron Sanchez who is his buddy. There's no way UVA would have hired Ron Sanchez under any other scenario and it's probably a safe assumption to make that about Stephen Pearl.

Altruism. Make life better for their constituents. Help solve difficult problems. Ahhh....sorry I couldn't keep a straight face any longer. The power, contacts with important influential people, and increased earning potential (outside the lines moreso than inside the lines) are enticement.

The Republican Governor could appoint Bruce as Tuberville’s temporary replacement in the Senate if he resigns. The permanent replacement would be selected in a special election about two months after there’s a vacancy. Tuberville’s term is up in 2027 (November 2026 midterm election). The 2026 election is also when Alabama’s 80 year old governor’s replacement would be selected (Tuberville probably runs for governor).

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Even though he says he isn't running (and since it isn't a typical or career political, I'm actually inclined to believe him), he's 100% made for politics. A slickly produced video ready to go, the tears and emotion, everything. And I don't mean that as a compliment.

I find this trend of coaches retiring right before the season starts to force the university to give their preferred assistant a shot at the job pretty nauseating to be honest. Not that I care that much here because this will be hilarious.

Sure but in this case, Bruce sort of has the right to name his successor regardless. I would say the same about Barnes when his day comes to retire.
