This is my argument every year when we play these games.

It actually makes me wonder why coaches don't keep QB1 a little longer, or sub in 2nd and 3rd string skill players early?

That would get the 2nd and 3rd guys some real time with the 1st QB and also makes your team ready if a 1st and 2nd skill guy goes down.

Vice Versa, having QB 2 in with the 1s can't do anything but pay dividends later...especially if QB1 goes down.

And you formed that opinion how?? We have seen G-Mac in a mop up role against ETSU’s 3rd and 4th stringers. Give Merk that opportunity and I bet the results are similar or let G-Mac go against UAB’s starters like Merk did and the results would be similar.

It is obvious the staff has more trust in Merk than G-Mac. I am not sure why but I trust CJH and staff to make that decision and see not point is posters getting in here weekly slamming the player or the staff.

Merk is so bad Heup may be making sure Merk is ready to back up Mac. Merk seems like a great dude and teammate, but…

Milton, of the three, had been here the longest, but he wasn't the "guy" until his fifth year. Nico never looked like the guy, and Merklinger seems like he's struggling to run the system as well.

Makes me wonder if even Macintyre will look like the guy when it's his chance to step up. I certainly hope so. But more to the point, I hope Merklinger looks more in command next year since he'll have been here three years now. I hop

Yeah. People thinking GMac or Faizon start next year are crazy IMO. I see us going and getting another 1 year guy unless Merk is just that guy.

Jake Merklinger committed to Tennessee over a lot of other colleges. He could have went someone else and played but he stayed here. A lot of players would have transferred after last season rather than spend another season sitting behind Nico. He has proven he is a Vol For Life. I think we owe the kid a little more respect than essentially pushing him out the door. In a climate where players can jump ship several times through the year, we should acknowledge loyalty to the team. I personally dont see the kid ever starting here, but I respect the heck out of his dedication and work.

No one is making up anything. People with a job can be criticized for doing bad job. Coaches and players can be criticized too, it's simple. That is not stupidity

100% agree, holds on to the ball way to long, not seeing the field, next mop up duty we need GM, Merk will be in the portal after this season anyway, Let’s see GM… GBO

I understand trying to be positive and give him the benefit of the doubt but reality is that Merk is just not good at playing quarterback. There’s no part of his game that jumps out as something he can build on. If he wants to be a starting QB he’ll need to transfer to a G7 school or FCS.

Me too……. AFTER he gains more size and strength. NOT until. Unless MERK goes down.

Should be a great battle for next year while THAT freshman grows and learns the ropes. Then all bets are off.
