'26 MS WR Tristen Keys (Tennessee commit)

How is it possible to be so confident about something you are so wrong about?

Not a mid 4* but in the composite rankings he was the 30th ranked player when he committed to Vols.

He jumped to 8th 17 days after committing to Vols.

Jumped to 3rd 4ish months after commitment.

In the Top247, he was already ranked 1st when he committed. And is still ranked 1st.

He very specifically mentioned 247's rankings. It's not something I'm going to argue about. There is no argument.

I still think its hilarious they dropped Keys within three weeks of flipping to us, but on a positive note we are the only school with two top 10 receivers committed.
Man, if MacIntye or Faizon is ready for the moment and can stay calm in the pocket, our passing game questions are answered for the next 3-4 years. Matthews and Staley are guaranteed to be back next year and we are stacked with young talent behind them. That combined with our insanely talented young O line starting to take over has me feeling REALLY good about the future of this team.

Unfortunately, nobody is guaranteed to be back next season do to NIL. We will place a value on these receivers and their agents will gauge the open market value which has proven to lead to some departures. The great thing is we have Smith & Jackson learning this year and a stacked WR recruiting class on the way. The future looks bright at WR. So far this season Stayley is performing better of the 2 IMO.

Corrected Jackson

Who are Smith and Redmon?

This will likely be tested this off-season, but so far I have not seen us lose anyone to the porthole that we REALLY wanted to keep.

While I agree we kept the top 10% of our roster that we wanted back, I think there were others like Squirrel who fit this narrative as I believe CJH wanted him to return. Also think a couple defenders left we wanted back also. JMO, TIFWIW

I think we didn’t value squirrel as much as FSU did, and if we valued him we would’ve kept him. We felt like we had better options on the team. I’m sure they would have kept him at the right price, but he wouldn’t have been happy in a backup role.

Same for Tyler Baron, and probably Jason Jenkins, although I would love to have had Jenkins the first 3 games.

It felt to me that we were completely fine with Squirrel leaving. It was a case of best for both parties as we had more talented players that were going to surpass him and he needed somewhere he could start. Even if he was willing to stay as a backup role player, it makes more sense to spend money elsewhere unless he took a pay cut, which is the opposite of what he was going to do (rightfully so). All that to say, Squirrel doesn't fit into the category of players we REALLY wanted to keep, which was the original point of the discussion.

might be a dumb question, but do rankings have any impact on a players earning power in NIL?

if so, if I'm a top recruit, I'm going after these sites and demanding they explain why they drop me in the rankings.

i gotta believe there is some correlation since On3 has a NIL projection on their rankings page.

Absolutely they do. They are leverage. It's not going to be the end-all-be-all because most teams do their own evaluations. But it gives a recruit bargaining power.

Just wondering what his ranking would be if he was still committed to LSU? I realize there is no way of knowing but the history sure seems to support the “conspiracy“ about ranking drops for certain players going to TN. JMO

Does it?

Are you keeping track of recruits that move up in the rankings after committing to UT?
