This year feels in some ways like 2012:

Best deep ball thrower since Tyler Bray

Can name our score against anyone

Awesome wide receivers

Stout offensive line

All paired with a swiss cheese defense that makes any game an adventure

We will be much better than the 2012 squad - the defense is at least much more athletic, but the defense is a problem going forward for sure

Is what it is - too many key injuries on that side. Banks didn’t forget how to coach in one offseason.

That's too critical of an injured defense. IMO.

false start on first down following the fumble recovery. False start on third down setting the game winning kick up. Those hurt.

Still should have had Joey take the snap and run right into the RG butt then fall down to center the kick.

"just kick the hell out of the ball right down the middle" takes a lot of the math out of it for the nervous kicker

A lot of what ifs. I say if Redmond didn't have to start we win going away.

it is OK to question and make observations - we are dedicated fans and in some cases, donors. Nobody is suggesting a change in HC.

H/T to Kirby for doing exactly what he needed to do to beat us. There was no other way it was going to get done. The better roster lost.

Saw it exactly the same way except for the kicker. My personal observations and from nearly every VFL I talk with has been he is not the guy since last year, yet, Heup still uses him. It's in his mental make-up. Programs at this level need better, more alpha kickers.

Our HC is making what top 5-10 HC's make. Expectations are as high as is his ceiling. Great potential. He needs to perform accordingly. He needs to change in a couple areas with one being loyal to assistant coaches who do not get it done. Example - each season Banks has laid an egg in at least one big game. It was obvious from their first play that he did not design and align the D correctly in the game plan for UGA's O-scheme and Bobo's play calling, which are well documented after all these years. It was not until the 4th quarter that he figured out they should consistently run base 4 man fronts and nickel to protect the back side. By then our D was tired and slow in reacting. Add in not giving Redmond help. We are now in Season 5, the SEC learning curve should have long since ended. InVol has always been right on this. We are not UGA on D with dudes nearly every season who can compensate for mediocre or poor coaching.

The other "loyalty" issue is to players. The eye and stat line test with his O is also obvious. He is the OC, not Joey. If he is going to do that, he has to play and use the best players more. Other elite programs do, he should be no exception. He plays the third best RB on runs more than any of the other two. Star Thomas will be a starting RB in the NFL. Bishop will be unlikely to make a team beyond a year. Bishop is a solid blocker. It is pointless to have Bishop out there to run the ball or go out in a pass pattern. When using an RB in a play, that means Thomas first and Lewis second. The need to do so becomes even more important at crunch time.

Players make plays unless they are on the sidelines and not in the game.

Next, why would anybody in their right minds stop throwing the ball to Brazzell for long periods of time? The ecripting of the first quarter plays showed everytbody what to do to beat UGA. They could not cover our receivers - any of them. Open all game even when JA missed occasionally. The picks were on Staley for falling and Heard for not keeping the pocket clean. The later was on third down and the same as a punt. Keep Bishop in to block and throw the dang ball first, run Thomas second. This is not hard to understand.
💯

" I don't think Max Gilbert was prepared to have to kick on a 3rd down. I believe it caught the kid by surprise and ultimately made him miss. Bone headed call by Heupel. I don't care what anyone says"... 💯
I think he just missed it
Even if there’s not a false start he misses
CJH calls TO to relax max and he misses
Everyone is trying to blame the guy who called a game to put us in position to win yet he didn’t miss the FG
Kickers miss sometimes
He’ll, NFL Ks miss extra points every week

7 is the only good LB we have

I really think that if Heupel goes for jugular after the fumble in the 4th instead of running 3 straight times then we win..Period..Let Aguilar do his thing and deliver a deep ball to Brazzell or Staley..🤷‍♀️
I think JA got concussed this hit, he was not the same after this shot, and it’s partly on brazzell because ja was rolling right and brazzell was covered and didnt improvise at all to get open forcing ja to tuck it and get decleated

I don’t get how you can’t criticize the staff or always have excuses. Injuries, youth, etc… I don’t get how you can watch yesterday and say our linebackers and safeties look well coached.

Here’s some positivity:

Many liked to hate on Coach E and that dude has that unit rolling. Our line is big and athletic and that’s without a future too ten pick at tackle yet. Coach E doing work.

Pope was dogged and his receivers played lights out other than a few drops but that happens. They look much improved and like true talented receivers this year.

Tight end depth looks great. Kit looks a little banged up but he and Ethan were laying blocks against a mean defense.

Scheme is light years better and way more creative with motion and choice routes. Props to the staff. Offense had a hell of a game and our coach got conservative in the end and it cost us. I bet he wishes he could change that now. But offense was not even close to what cost us. Scoring 35+ on UGA should always be a win.

DL still wreaked havoc. Herring was abusing their right tackle. Ross and Joseph’s had games too. We were small in the middle but they still held up mostly so our ends could make plays. Garner and Chop will have this unit always playing well. Even with injuries they still did fine and will be much better when Hobbs and Moi return.

Corners played well and had some absolute Bs calls against them. I could have broke my tv. Hood and Redmond are backups and are almost always glued to their guy and making plays. Ty got picked on some but he is a freshmen and he will get beat some. Boo played much better in the second half and was huge in run supper. Honestly
Surprised by their play.

Negative:

Linebacker play and subs. Why is Bolton and a fourth string playing in the fourth quarter? Why is Bolton playing period, this is the sec and he isn’t an SEC talent. Put in a freshmen. Telander runs to wrong gaps and can’t cover in space, why is he starting over Spillman? I swear that dude runs straight into blocks whenever he does try to pressure. Carter plays hard and is good, but his angles can be really hard to make plays. This unit looks lost with motions and bite easily, it’s been an issue for years.

Safety play. This is banks position and hasn’t been good. Never seen such bad angles like Turrentine takes. We brought in Alan Williams to help with safety play and I think it benefited Farooq. Dude was flying around and impressed. But why is Turrentine still starting? Why can’t we try Beasley?

Banks as a DC. Our best defenses have been when he can play base and coverage. This requires elite DL play which we have had the last two years. We all saw what happens against UGA/OSU last year when they don’t get pressure… why are you leaving a freshmen on an island so much? Why let gunner get in a Rhythm and gain confidence? Make him fit the ball in windows and prove he can go through reads. Hitting that bomb and a couple quick passes to start really got him going. I don’t think he does if he goes three and out a couple times to start the game.

My last thoughts and I’m moving onto UAB.

I used to be a HS Soccer coach and I loved every minute of it. Looking back, I can probably circle every game we played that, win or lose, was a turning point for the season, either positively or negatively. I think last night was that game for us. How does the locker room respond to a game that came down to the last second? How do the coaches respond to the negative feedback and questionable decisions that rightfully fall on their shoulders? Do our players, especially the younger ones, reflect and grow or shrug it off as no biggie and keep doing what they’re doing? I think UAB will give us a hint but I think MSU will be the tell.

This team has what could be something special, especially when we can get close to full strength. Here’s hoping we analyze the film, get closer in the locker room, and whoop some ass next Saturday. Go Vols!

Maybe true. But Texas defense is elite and UGA wouldn’t score 14 on them. But could they score 14 would be the question! Ha
The way texass offense had been playing uga might score 14 point just on defense. They have to be the biggest surprise of the year. Not in a good way.

I'm hurting, Linda.

Same here

We had so many chances to win that game. The 4th an 6, the two point conversion, the missed FG. Bottom line, Georgia made the championship plays, we didn’t. We’ve massively closed the talent gap, but you can tell Georgia has been in those type pressure situations before, and we haven’t.

They handled it well, and we didn’t. We lost because the moment was too big for us.

We lost a ton of experience on the DLine and we haven’t recruited good enough at LB and safety. Add in injuries and this is the product.

This may be a good one if any of us is dwelling on a player or coach for this loss.

September 14, 2025: You will have a tendency to curse those who have cursed you in the past, but that is not the right path to take. You must bless and release them from your memory. Nothing you do now will change what was done. But, you can move forward with a pure heart and clean conscience. Acts 24:15-16 I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.

We lost the game right here. As you said, we never should have been playing for a FG, UGA should have been playing for two TDs. Conservative play calling the last half of the 4th Q killed us. That’s why I’m baffled and angry with Heupel at the moment. I’ll get over it, but playing to not lose will always get you. And when you’re only up 8, that’s not the time to do that.
Firmly believe we will learn from this and be better for it. When we get healthy, we will be a force to reckon with.
