Staff changes need to happen

You’re overreacting. It’s ok to be critical of some decisions, I am myself, but to call for the heads of the staff after a razor thin loss to one of the best teams in the country is asinine. I swear some of you must’ve just become fans in 2022 because I remember a few years ago getting curb stomped by Georgia on the regular.

It’s ok to chill out and admit that we’re a top ten team. I’m as frustrated as anyone but we’re gonna be fine.

It’s as simple as this. We should have won this game. We were down 2 starting DTs and 2 starting CBs. The fact we still should’ve won with that says a lot. There’s a lot of season left
We weren’t missing John Henderson and Big Al at DT though. We’re talking about missing guys that would be rotational pieces at Georgia

I’m not overreacting. Our interior DL recruiting has been piss poor under this staff, and it’s catching up on us now that we don’t have 5th and 6th year seniors playing. And none of our DBs that didn’t play for another staff can play with the ball in the air. I’m not saying clean house, but changes need to be made

No, but our secondary didn’t get bullied by their OL today. I specifically named the DT position for a reason

The opening drive of the third quarter was the only time that our DL got bullied. The rest of the time they held up fine. We forced Stockton to beat us and he did so it is what it is. You go watch the film tomorrow and get ready to kick UAB’s tail next Saturday to get back on track. A lot of season left.

Stockton played well because our dumbass defensive coordinator kept leaving a true freshman corner on an island because we have to send secondary players to get pressure because or DL sucks

Georgia took advantage of our key injuries on defense and it is what it is. We have a young team. Also Georgia was supposed to win this by 3. They won by 3 but we had a legit shot to take the win outright. Coaches did their job but we came up short.

The nature of the beast. He had to take risks. At least he just didn’t let him sit back there and pick us apart like Beck last year. Stockton made some good under pressure throws. It’s what happens when your all American DB is hurt along with other starters.

I would much rather force Stockton to throw into the teeth of a defense than give him 1 on 1 matchups outside against a true freshman

Ok, so you’re picking and choosing. And also, I don’t know if you have any experience with football, but missing bodies at DL hurts period. If we had Moi or Hobbs that makes a difference

So you don’t bring extra pressure and just let him sit in the pocket all day? Or take off on a run? The blitzes worked most of the time. We sacked him a few times and forced some bad throws. We were in a position to win. Conservative play calling cost us the game.

I said earlier in the week it would take a turnover in Georgia territory to win. We got it and what did we do? Run up the middle three times instead of going for the kill. It’s a lesson to learn for this coaching staff.

I think it depends on if you want to grow the program into the national championship caliber or not. Josh is by far the best coach we've had post-Fulmer, but this current staff has a couple of weak spots that will keep it from being elite.
No offense but what team doesn’t have weak spots. Thats part of the game. Exploiting teams weaknesses. We did that tonight. Georgia is the cream of the crop right now. We just threw all over them with a G-5 transfer qb and scored 41 points on a Kirby Smart defense. After what we’ve been through with the ncaa violations from Pruitt era, we are just now seeing true results of what Heupel can build here. Yes we’ve got all his recruits now and the penalties are over but that stuff still takes another year or two to completely get sorted out roster wise. Down 2 DL and 2 CB. I would have loved a W but I’m not at all disappointed. In fact, this game made me had more hope for the playoffsz

No, I completely understand that. However we got absolutely manhandled up front today. We also got gashed consistently by Syracuse. There shouldn’t be that big of a drop off 5 years into a staff’s run. If we recruited better on the interior we wouldn’t feel as big of a hit when a DT went down. As far as corner goes we’re still seeing the same problems we did in 22. The coverage is good, but they can’t play the ball when it’s in the air. When you have the same issues year after year after year in a position room it means the position coach isn’t cutting it
It isn’t just one DT down. Two of our top 4 are down and we’re playing DE’s as reserve tackles. No team in the country is going to do any better in that situation.

Yep. We had them on the ropes and let them off the hook. And I’m pretty sure Georgia realizes that. They were lucky to get out with a win.

People are going to say I’m overreacting and all we had to do was make a field goal. However we should’ve won by 3 possessions today, but couldn’t get off of the field in critical times because we have guys on the field that shouldn’t be out there. Which was understandable early on under this staff, but we’re in year 5 and this staff has had 3 full recruiting cycles to get their roster constructed, and the defensive side of the ball looks just like it did in year 2. I know we had some injuries, but we should be at the point now where we don’t get blown off the line of scrimmage or have DBs don’t even get their hands up when the ball is in the air. I know Jermod McCoy is a first round pick, but it’s not like we’re missing 2 day 1 or 2 NFL picks on our DL. We never landed a true successor for Omari Thomas, and contrary to popular belief you still have to have a space eater in the middle that can draw and even get through double teams. We’ve also yet to land a HS corner outside of Rickey Gibson that can play with the ball in the air. Conyer and Goree were never SEC corners, Jordan Matthews was a bust or under developed, and Kaleb Beasley is playing safety. With the sample size we’ve had so far it’s not a stretch of the imagination at all that Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood are as good as they are because of the development they got at their previous schools. If we don’t start landing DTs and corners that are the same caliber as the DEs and LBs we’re recruiting we’re never going to take that next step. Heupel can’t just be another Dan Mullen who is a great offensive mind, but an above average staff builder and recruiter
or maybe...just maybe our coaches did fine but were short handed with 4 defensive starters including both our starting elite DBs out and it hurt them late?
