Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

My main complaints are Heupel morphing into Josh Majorrs at the end when have a Mid kicker. Playing Ben Bolton and others on key drives in the fourth quarter. First time I have been really pissed after a game.
Not trying to get those false start yards back pissed me off. Your kicker has been mentally preparing for a certain yardage or less for the last 5 minutes, you can't go backward and not at least try to get back to where you were.

And if Max nails it or the 4th and 6 over the shoulder wr doesn't make an SC10 catch...you'd be 180 degrees different.

We didn't even have our top 2 DBs lol.

We're fine. We're better than fine.
I’m not understanding how people aren’t seeing the difference in this team compared to years past. They have the mentality to get even better from here. Especially when our vets come back on D, we’re going to see a huge improvement from where we already are which is having the reigning SEC champs on the ropes. Nobody is stopping this offense this year. Nobody is going to be able to copy a blueprint like last year to stop this offense. Never seen Heupel have guys running so many drag or shallow routes, intermediate routes over the middle, going in motion, lining up in trips and all the other stuff he put in this year. We have a super versatile offense now in terms of scheme and teams aren’t going to be able to know what we’re doing just from how they expect us to react to their defense’s formation like last year. Also, the improvement in talent on the O-line helps this a bunch. This offense can end up being legendary.

Staley is a really good WR. Matthews is not really living up to the 5 star hype. I don’t really care how athletic MM is. He drops way too many balls
I said it in the game forum, but anyone saying matthews is a good wr is just pretending. He cant catch worth a damn-especially if a defender is near

Vols-10 for 82 yards

UGA-5 for 39
This is unreal. I knew when I saw we had the head ref from Birmingham that we were gonna have to beat Georgia and the refs, and that is exactly what happened. We had every opportunity to do that and should have, but it’s so frustrating to have to go into these big games, knowing it will not be called evenly.

Very disappointing loss because it was ours for the taking, but by far the best full game we have played against UGA in a while. Cannot wait until this team is fully healthy. No moral victories here. Let’s win out!

Offensively best game vs UGA obviously. Defensively the worst I’ve seen to this point.

I saw it too. They got away with holding on the edge a lot for the entire game! It’s certainly frustrating that we can never get those calls.
No question. You just have to call that one in OT. It was right where the play was going to be made. You can’t hold the flag there. It basically ended the game.

All true, I just can’t blame the defense specifically for that run in OT. We had it defended and a hold directly enabled the run.
I saw the hold as well but our personnel was trash all 2nd half. We stayed in Nickel the entire the time even when they were in jumbo in OT. My only gripe for Banks.

Well also he was too aggressive at times I thought, first play of the game on defensive as example. Blitzing the safety from 20 yards back is plain stupid lol.

If he is taking a lot of NIL dollars I’d much rather let
Him go and run with Braley/Smith/Jackson/Keys/Moa/and the TX kid

Exactly. Why is Bolton and another third string player in the game in the fourth quarter? Why are we still subbing all the time on defense in the fourth? It’s minutes left, suck it up starters and get the win. Why is Turrentine still starting after years and years of being average at best and exposed against good teams? Your kicker looks terrified and shook so let’s rush him to kick. Use a damn timeout and calm him and give him confidence. Just so many things… We had loads of depth last year to rotate all the time and that makes it fine. We don’t have that this year and can’t rotate mid level linebackers in a fourth quarter game Against UGA. I’m afraid Banks has looked good because of elite DL talent the last couple of years and getting a first round corner from OSU. He doesn’t seem to do more with less and actually looks pretty bad without top level talent. I should have known we would give up a lot after Syracuse but thought maybe it was first game jitters.

But we had a fg kick to win the game. He coached to win . Just log off bro

If all we’re going to focus on is a missed FG by a 19-20 year old then so be it. We had other opportunities to win this game and that is a fact. Aguilar just carved up Georgia’s defense again to go up 5. Defense gets a fumble on the 40 and we run it 3x instead of going for the jugular. Mike Matthews, a highly paid 5* receiver, has bricks for hands and drops another pass in OT that would have been an easy first down and probably first and goal. Gilbert deserves the crap he’s getting but everyone knows about college kickers and we crapped the bed in other areas as well. Wasn’t exactly McGrath hitting a knuckleball with no time left out of necessity, we put this game on a kicker multiple times and that was stupid as well. It was stupid not to be a little more aggressive and try to make that kick as easy as possible as well.

On that first drive of the second half, we were light personnel all the way down the field. That was head scratching.

Defense in OT got screwed on a terrible missed hold. If Georgia is starting 1st and 20, we might have still found a way.
There are no "missed" holds when the VOLS are concerned. The refs can see all of ours but rarely see any of theirs.

*It's been that way for a long time.... especially if we're playing bama, georgia, or gata. Really, any SEC team we play.

I know we’re down a few starters, but I’m still fairly shocked at how much of a step back the defense has taken after being elite last year. I thought by Year 5 we’d have more depth there by now.
LB and safeties aren’t good enough. Turrentine is awful. Telander isn’t athletic enough
