I think issue is NOT finishing, it was the fact we weren't competitive against Ohio State.

Had we lost by only 2 TDs and kept it close, that would be another story. We got blown out like G5 opponents do on their schedule. Granted Ohio State also did that to Oregon the following weekend.

Again, look at where we were when Heupel took over after Pruitt almost destroyed our program. The record getting to this point after all of that doesn't mean 💩.

Again 2 top 10 finishes and a playoff appearance in 3 years is top tier...

A tier from Josh's time here would be

Elite- Bama, UGA, Ohio St, Michigan

Top tier - Tennessee, Penn St, LSU, Oregon, etc

everyone else

a consistent top 10 program is top tier..

Yes, but we're also 2-1 (4-2 total) vs Florida and Bama in the last 3 matchups with each team. We just haven't had success with Georgia yet. Hopefully that changes today.

That addresses the original discussion how? Moving the goalposts changes nothing. I have seen no criticism of the job CJH is doing. If you’re willing to call mission complete now. Good for you.

It’s disappointing that they lost at Fla in ‘23 but winning convincingly at LSU overrides that. Doering just taking his shots. He rarely takes Tennessee.

Yeah but both of those they had the OC who is now at Baltimore. He was the reason for the season 100% and now they are back to Bobo, who has never been good at really any point in

I fail to understand posts in a thread that start with how great a fan the poster is, then spends the next several posts arguing with almost everyone else that the team is not as good as we think they are. I care nothing about Chris Doehring's opinion. His Alma mater just got smacked in the mouth by USF. Can they run with the "big dogs"?

Herbstreet had a similar premise on game day but its funny because his take was a bit more positive and realistic in the sense that he said Tennessee was 78-82 overall in the previous 13 seasons prior to heupal arrival who has gone 39-13 while rebuilding a roster and making a complete culture shift

It addresses the original discussion because we're using Heupels record since he got here. It isn't rocket science.
Since he was hindered by scholarships yanked and players leaving because of Pruitt, it's valid.

To be FAIRER he could have mentioned we were a playoff team last year. That has to be part of any VALID trend analysis.

The original conversation was Doering said he’d believe in UT when they pushed around the big boys. It got sidetracked with feelings from there. I’ve said nothing negative about UT this whole conversation. We just are where we are til we step up to the next level. Yes we’ve beat some good teams, we also lost to an Arkansas team that went 3-4 in the SEC. How does it feel to be one of three on a list that includes 5-7 Auburn and 2-10 MS State? If you’re happy with where we are I’m proud for you. UT is doing great but we’re not elite yet. A little reality from talking heads doesn’t upset me as much as it does y’all. I look forward to Heupel taking us to the next level hopefully starting today. I’m through with this topic. It’s like arguing politics in here, there’s no place for facts it’s just all emotion. Go Vols!

The funniest part of the whole thing, for me, is that Chris Doering is trying to group Florida in with the "big boys". In the same timeframe he is referencing for Tennessee(since 2021), Florida is 2-2 against UT, 0-4 vs UGA(average margin 38-17), 0-1 against Bama, 1-3 vs LSU, 1-3 vs UK, 1-2 vs S Carolina, and 2-2 vs Missouri.

You realize that’s in 3rd place in the SEC? Only Ga & Al are better. Take away the 5 top 25 losses in 2021 (it’s a small miracle Tennessee beat anyone that year) and he’s 11-5 the last 3 years.

Exactly this guy thinks 3rd in the SEC or two top 10 finishes in 3 years is "average"
