People can blame guns, knives, bombs, whatever have you but the problem is lack of empathy for a fellow human. Race, political affiliation, gender, etc is used as a reason to dehumanize the other side enough to where you’re justified in hating them or even killing them to save your cause. Social media, main stream media tell these same lies over and over. Algorithms sort us into different factions over and over and pit us against one another. We’re so tribal and fractured I’m afraid this country is headed for a bad internal conflict.

Pray for the Kirk family, pray for your country no matter what your political beliefs and pray for neighbors and try to do right by them.

This kind of broad strokes characterization is a huge part of the actual problem we have, which is people resorting to violence to address political adversaries.

People take in far too much partisan media. The left is evil, stupid, etc. The right is evil, stupid, etc. You can tell by comments who consumes tons of partisan sources. At the end of the day, this is terrible. A wife lost her husband. Children lost their father. Just disgusting. Bring down the rhetoric and vitriol. Clearly, there is far too much violence in our society. What do we do about that? I only see it getting worse.

I don't know enough to know whether there is an issue with access to guns or not. If the shooter was a couple of hubdred yd away or even just a couple of hundred feet, that would suggest somebody who was very proficient and not the type of person we talk about when we discuss sort of a deranged imdividual who has suddenly gotten access to guns. This seems more planned out.

If the person in the video wasn't the shooter, who is and how did he manage to evade being seen or captured? Surely there was security of one type of another at a gathering that size? Something seems off.

Then your side should stop resorting to the practice of violence. Let's go all the way back to even just the "peaceful" protests and burned down cities and start keeping score. Make sure we get all the incidents, even the ones playing baseball/softball. Let's include who was really behind J6 when we score that one. Given that there must have been hundreds, if not thousands, of cameras in the area, I'm confident that the shooter will be identified fairly quickly.
