Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Swaguilar only has one year of eligibility, so necks year if Merck leaves we would have Rs Fr GMac and true Fr Faizon. Doesn't sound like a good setup. So do they may go out and get a guy with a couple years of eligibility to fill out the room or try to hang on to Merck who they have already poured so much time and effort into?
You forgot about the portal. Heupel is not gonna let us have two scholarship QB's on the roster

Here’s an idea - stop pouring time and effort into QBs that are not part of the future here.
So....stop coaching an active player on your active roster, just because there is a chance that they choose to transfer at a later date? So Merck shows up to practice and that coaches just tell him to hang out on the sideline while they work with the QB's that matter? Yeah....that will do wonders for recruiting and team morale. You should coach D-1 football because you are a motivational jengus!

I guess he mismanaged it to two national titles. I’d take that. None of those guys were good other than Fields.
They won in spite of not having a good qb with that hobbit Bennett, he had Bowers and McConkey who bailed him out every game. Their defense was so smothering and their run game so good that it didn't matter if they had a qb. I have said this before if Heup had the resources that Kirby has had the last decade, he would have won seven natties.

this is also a UGA OL that doesnt quite look like the ones we are used to.

Last yrs unit had three top 3 round draft picks and another on a roster as a free agent..All that with a QB in Beck who is prob at worst a 2nd round pick this yr .This current OL is having some protection issues against APSU and Marshall bc they are pretty young. Neyland environment could really play a part here.

Theres a real recipe here to take advantage of…..Environment, QB thats not seeing things and lacking confidence and a young OL.
I'm wondering if the struggles with AP were because UGA spent the week preparing for the TN game. Maybe @peaygolf has some insight into this.

I mentioned the portal. The issue there is you are bringing in a new guy and most evidence shows that a player gets better in Heup's system in the second year. So who is gonna want to transfer here with GMac likely starting and Faizon coming in behind him. You are asking for a guy to come in as a back up. Maybe you can find a guy to do that, but then why not just try and keep Merck who already knows the system and is still likely just the backup?

Whoa whoa… check my stats bro. Told y’all before camp. And even said Merk wouldn’t be here after this year. Got some hell.

Don’t take my e-cred Beast!
I will let you keep the e-cred. It was obvious to me that would be the result in cam and it keeps getting more obvious. Has a Harrison Bailey vibe, imo.

It will probably be a veteran that transfers up or one that doesn’t mind sitting the bench at Tennessee. An emergency qb in case something drastic happens. It’s hard to keep three starter level qbs happy.

Stetson Bennett gets all the hate, but the guy was a really good college QB. In 2022, he averaged 310 yards per game against ranked teams, throwing 20 TDs against 3 picks in those 7 games—plus 7 rushing TDs. That’s almost 4 TDs a game against ranked teams! Of course he benefited from having great players around him and from insane defenses (plus Monken as his OC), but he was the highest rated passer in the country against bowl teams in 22 and was third in 21. That doesn’t just happen.

Kirby kept trying to replace him and recruit over him and the stupid walk on kept playing out of his mind.

It’s not our defense I’m worried about. Kirby will wreak havoc on our offense. Just what he does.

Can we stay composed, can we protect, can we get the ball to someone in space, create a mismatch.

Their defense is relatively younger from years past from what I gather but still ultra talented.
Need to give them a lot of eye candy to confuse them. I think that’s why we are showing a lot more motion, formations, etc. I think we will see a ton of this Saturday.
