What about Omari Sanders at STAR?

I think that dude might be the best prospect in Tennessee or at least 1B with DGG.
He seems destined to be a linebacker to me. He's has similar frame as Joel Wyatt but can/will add way more to that frame than Wyatt would've. FRA has just used him as a deep safety to be the last line of defense on passing downs so far. Saw him attempt to cover at UA Nashville and that took DB out of my mind personally. Every rep was ROUGH. He's best at getting downhill and making a play on the ball anyway. Hoping he plays primarily at linebacker this year personally. FRA can afford to move him bc they have another good strong safety

Agree. I'm not certain he doesn't end up as an Edge, which speaks to your Wyatt comp. Sanders already has a similar build to Joshua Josephs coming out of HS. Already 210 lbs, he has a frame to add 30-40 lbs and be a monster pass rusher.

Could see that. He's packed on a lot of weight since getting to high school and would fit the type of Tennessee. Wyatt could hold up at DB bc he can play in space, not cover man-to-man in space but he can make plays on ball and has good range. Omarii is more of a heat seeking missle looking to come downhill to me

Where are we at in Kenny Simon's recruitment?
I think Tennessee’s in it but I’m also not so sure that things ended so great here with Kevin so I think that throws a wrinkle into things

Based on chatter on VQ it sounds like he was on staff under Pruitt then was let go by Heup. Probably going to make his son a tough pull if that's the case.

Ole Miss is the current leader from all I've read.
He’s on radio a lot
Wonder if he’s harder on the current regime

makes me think there is more there. anyway, Kevin's a VFL, so, no need to speculate. could just be anyone attached to that program got axed.

I don’t see how we legally could have kept anyone that even had knowledge. Hope he doesn’t take it personally.

Yeah, if he doesn’t understand that the entire previous staff had to go, he’s naive. I don’t think it’s a big enough issue to interfere if we push for him. Kenneth Jr is boys with JP Peace and other in-state guys who will prob end up in the class.

Don't believe him being let go had anything to do with the recruiting scandal under Pruitt. He was not let go until the Spring of '22 which was a couple years into Heup's tenure.

Maybe we can mend that relationship and land his son but AP definitely made it sound like something happened on his dad's way out.

I remember listening to him on Swain's show when the whole Nico thing happened.

He was pretty negative towards the staff during that time. I had to turn it off just from what he was saying

I would surprised if Kevin Simon lets his son play for Heupel. He rips Heupel quite a bit on the radio whenever he gets the chance.

Heupel imo has been the best coach since I’ve been a UT fan. Flumer was playing against a conference that wasn’t nearly as strong as it is presently.

And he got all the top talent.

Give me Omari Sanders any-day over junior.
That’s the Mid-State linebacker we need.

Fulmer also never had to build. Majors built it up. Fulmer inherited a loaded roster. He sorta got what Kirby got at Georgia, but did less. Then he let it deteriorate.

There was a reason CPF was on the hot list of candidates, being a BIGTIME closer was one of them. His transition was easier because LOTS of true VFLs were, are and will be loyal to him. On both sides of the ball. Majors had lots of earned respect, but pushed relationship envelopes with staff and squad. They had different flaws that ended their runs. But the trend lines following each departure ARE WHAT THEY ARE and neither left the cupboard bare.

The cupboard that Kiffin got in 2009 was a helluva lot more bare than the cupboard that Fulmer got in 1993.

Fulmer left a worse roster than he inherited. That’s undeniable.

What were his recruiting rankings the day he was let go? My old memory is 6th or 7th. Was he on the upside of a talent cycle? The unanswerable question.

Like I said no problem with looking to improve. But with a solution in hand, not a wild search playing the THIS IS TENNESSEE card.

Now do the 2008 class.

But yeah, you’re right in your 2nd paragraph. Firing Fulmer wasn’t the bad decision. It was doing so without a proper successor identified or obtained. The fact that we turned away Gary Patterson was ridiculous.
