Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Nico changed his narrative. Now the story is closer to family. By moving most of his family back from the place he was at.

Also Klatt's either bribed or lazy take does no mention of Nico's brother who also bolted. Those are related and have 0 to do with UT.

They messed up and this was the best compromise. Spin away. We MAY have been a hard negotiator which would be the only side not included, but don't shake us down after the main transfer window is complete.

I still think it came down to Big Nic thinking he'd call the shots and/or get some sort of staff role.

UCLA has one thing no other school that was originally mentioned for spots for Nico has...a very inexperienced/young HC

Foster entering just his 2nd year as HC...brings in a 1st year OC

Ehh, bad take. I am not a Nico lover by any stretch of the imagination, however all accounts of him were that he worked his ass off. I'd bet with the time and training that he had to do, he works harder at his craft than anything you've ever worked at in your life, so that's a very confusing take. Sometimes that's just not enough and they don't have the it factor, or they choke under pressure and I feel that may have been what Nico may have faced. Being the quarterback at Tennessee is not for the faint of heart.

Also, "lazy dope smokers" lol. You realize most of your favorite athletes probably partake in cannabis, right? Your opinion on that matter is even worse than your take that Nico didn't work hard.

Sorry dad🙄🤣🤣

Reports are he absolutely did not work his ass off on required appearances. He also did not work his ass off on connecting with the whole team. He did work his ass off to try and leverage for a bigger check.

Personally I really believe that Nico's biggest flaw is that he was lazy. If he would have put in the work he would have been ok. I recognize a lazy athlete a mile away.
California for my my money is an entire state of unmotivated, lazy dope smokers, I'm seeing it more and more every day.

You better hope you’re wrong because our starting QB this year happens to be from the same state Nico was from. I don’t think it was a Cali problem it was just a Nico problem.

Cali is full of athletes and we need to start recruiting that state better like the old days. Some of our best players we’ve had over the years have come from there so let’s not write it off because we landed a dud.

Nico was a slow processor and came here like a glorified AAU basketball player. Either he was going to get better and start to get it or he won't get it. I think he worked plenty hard.

Nico was lazy and didn’t work nearly as hard as players like Eason, Bailey, Sampson, Bru, etc. Locker room is Better with him gone.

I’m rooting like hell for Aguilar. Great kid and wants to do everything to help his team win. If he can this team to the playoffs, he will be a legend here and beloved for a long time.

I can’t pretend to know what went on behind the scenes. I’m not an insider like a lot of people on this board claim to be but all I know is he never demonstrated real leadership on offense and his results on the field left a lot to be desired. If he worked hard behind the scenes and that’s what we ended up with all I have to say is why we didn’t let him go sooner.

Well, drop ETSU add Syalose as a home game and find an good non-con road game. You're right it ain't that complicated. Home games vs Directional U suck, particularly when they are late in the season. You would feel differently if you didn't watch all the games at the house and had to pay for those games.
The entire discussion was in response to this:
we gave up a game in Neyland under the lights for a nooner in Atlanta. Please DW, no more.
I was simply pointing out that we didn't, in fact, give up a game in Neyland to play a nooner in Atlanta. We get seven every year. Still got seven. Noon sucks, but ATL is actually not a terrible place for us to play. DW did just fine.

And for the record, I watch every home game from midfield seats in Neyland. And yes, I pay for them with my own money.

That’s why Spyre has to pay a little more to get these top athletes on offense lol. Although Pope is recruiting his a** off. I think he knows he has to prove it.
Maybe, but he only has to prove it to one guy, who has a better view of THEIR targeting, offering, and pay ceilings since arrival. Won’t be a consensus of social media driving the train.

Not to mention the only reason Foster got the job was because he was the only coach still hanging out in the athletic department from previous regime after Chip Kelly left. And UCLA didn't have the time to do a proper coaching search.

entitled is a different form of lazy. lazy can manifest is various forms. i don't think you can look at osu game and think 'lazy', he played hard.
I can look at the fact that nobody ever really bragged about how hard he pushed and worked off the field or in practice and say he was lazy...it ain't about what he did in one game.

this like 5 days ago. bro, we've changed subjects like 57 times since then 😆

May not happen now...but eventually Big Nic ends up on a college staff because he leveraged his sons. That's what I'm expecting.

😢 I gotta say...seeing Squirrel talking at a FSU presser just now really hurt my heart...I hate this stupid current CFB money 💩.

I get it, he wanted a lot more than we were going to pay him, we are never going to overpay players, that much has been made abundantly obvious, and it is his last year probably playing football, and FSU obviously is desperate enough to give him more than his common sense value...but...

Dude should be leaving Knoxville as a Vol for Life after this season, and now he is just not ever going to be...to me anyway...I just can't consider guys like him and Tyler Baron as VFLs when they leave simply for a few more bucks...especially as thin as we are at WR.

I hate it because I have a soft spot for Squirrel, despite the fact that he was so frustrating and aggravating out there jumping and flopping everywhere when he obviously didn't have to...it became like a mental block or something.

He is not a VFL...he is a Seminole, and they will never love him like we did, and would have forever...I don't care about the arguments that I know some of you money grubbers that think it is the be-all end-all of life will spout.

He is dead to me as Volunteer family...I hope it was worth it Squirrel...I really hope it was worth it..😓😓😓

I’m with you on Squirrel, but why can’t we consider Tyler Baron (or Ty Chandler for that matter) a VFL when he played here for four years and got a degree?

Yep, especially if Nico has a decent year. Big Nic will you use it as a compromise for Nico to stay at UCLA instead of going pro or leaving for another school for more money.
