The Atlanta Braves

So nice, we did it twice! (Boos run me off stage)

Gonna push back on the sentiment we need try new things schematically game one. I don’t want Kirby seeing new things in the film room, I want him to have that “oh sh!t” moment in game.

I think we can beat Cuse with tempo, completing those deep balls and playing defense.

Stoerner’s Fumble, who is solid, said that Seth Littrell has been a fantastic hire and has implemented new wrinkles in the offense that should pay off. TE heavy

I think that's a fair point. I think my overall issue is, I don't want to see that staggered tempo and then run a bubble screen. I think it just kills the flow of the offense. If they go with 2TE and gash them in the run with a couple deep balls AND THEN in game 3 bring in some passing concepts, that's cool too.

I also have a pretty good respect for 'Cuse after reviewing them. Unlike VA in 2023 where we thought they held back, I think you're playing with fire if you try and hold some schematic things till game 3.

If we struggle with Syracuse, whatever we put on tape is the least of our worries for GA.

The offense is the offense. It is leverage and tempo. The splits create a head count advantage in the run game. The routes are option/choice routes. The receiver and quarterback have to make the same decision based on the leverage key and the quarterback has to throw it before he sees it open. It’s half field reads. Something is always there unless it’s press man vs far, far superior defensive backs. The wrinkle would be man beaters, but

A) a leopard doesn’t change its spots
B) if you can’t beat the man in front of you with the scheme advantages that Heupel gives you (mainly switch/hesi releases) then “man-beater plays” aren’t getting you open either

Yep. The boring parts of the offense are integral for the explosive parts.

I do hope they take advantage of the loaded TE room though. At the end of the day, just go fast.

Yes. I should have expanded more on this point in the podcast. I'm fine with the scheme of the offense. It works. My bigger issue what they've done the last two years (more specifically last year) with the tempo. It's not going to be as effective if they cannot go fast.

The biggest thing I've noticed with Joey is he will get off the initial read quick if it's not there, something the last two QB's could not do. If they can get the backside stuff open and working, they could be really explosive again.

Doesn’t mean you aren’t wrong about him in college tho. Like the effort tho.
I think him being absolutely mediocre at best everywhere he wasn’t connected to Heupel/Golesh actually makes my point and click passer argument for me, but I got stuff to do today.

I think the biggest issue with the offense the last two years is the inability to hit the deep ball (overthrows and drops). Which lead to slow tempo, CJH will get guys open just gotta connect.

It shouldn't have taken this long for me to figure out, but I imagine having a QB that doesn't get off the initial read has to be really demoralizing as a WR.

When the play is called and you aren't the primary target, I'm sure those guys were like "Well, I'm not getting the ball this time even if I'm open." That isn't an excuse to then loaf the play but it had to be frustrating.

In the Spring I had this game pegged as a "closer than the experts think" spot (shoutout Lee Corso) but now I don't. The more I look and think about it I think we'll be able to just run it right at them pretty successfully; they'll 100% know it's coming and just won't be able to stop it. Having said that I'd still like to take shots down the field though, particularly at the true freshman CB they're starting.
