Cracker Barrel has fallen

I’ll take “Inauthentic corporate speak written by a committee of PR minions over multiple late night crisis meetings” for $500 Alex

Short translation into regular English

“We are sorry you customers failed to recognize the brilliance of our corporate leadership and should have explained it in a manner understandable to you uneducated cretins. Please know that we are doing this for your betterment in cleansing you of your toxic culture and biases and will continue to do so in defiance of your expressed wishes. Now away and do not bother us again.”

I get that they risk losing traditional customers with these changes. What I don't get is who do they expect to attract (gain) by sterilizing their dining rooms? Who was staying away from CB saying "I'm not going there until they take those old nick knacks off the walls..."

Especially since the younger crowd they seem to be courting aren’t exactly flocking to ANY chain restaurants right now.
The best strategy right now is to differentiate yourself from your competition; not look the same as them. IMHO at least

No idea what that is but it sure doesn't sound yummy.
I believe it is a roadside South American weed that they started selling to us as a joke; but the trendy coastal folks actually fell for its claims to be an unknown superfood. They have been laughing at us ever since 😂

Who are they trying to emulate? Surely they're not trying to be a First Watch. Trying to be a Denny's, Applebees or Perkins? Those are all struggling. If anything I just think CB expanded too much. Close the underperforming stores. I think their expansion of chicken dishes was well overdue

It all comes down to quality. In a way, the restaurant business strategy is among the simplest possible. Make the best possible food and sell it at a reasonable price. Do that and branding, logos, and everything else become insignificant in comparison
Almost any long term customer of CB recognized that something changed in the kitchens around five years ago. What had been very high level southern comfort food with generous portions became borderline slop in reduced serving sizes. Most people suspect it was cost cutting in the quality of ingredients combined with mass production of meals in advance and storing them until ordered.
CB reportedly has spent $700 million so far on the rebranding studies and implementation. Just imagine what that money COULD have done in restoring quality instead.

I am proud to introduce my new restaurant concept opening soon. It is based on authentic country cooking. Served in a down-home atmosphere. Welcome to Crocker Barrow.

Good job. I had been thinking of calling mine “Biscuit Bin” 😀
The menu will offer most country fare but the centerpiece will be the “Southern Trinity plate”. Cornbread, pinto beans (with onion slices on the side of course) and turnip greens for $5.99. And of course; buttermilk available on the drink menu.

@volfanhill

In your employment, I suppose you have access to behavioral studies which influence diners to spend more money.

As far as you know, are there any studies which differentiate between chairs and booths as it relates to diner spending or satisfaction?

These company statements are crafted by the marketing, PR, and legal departments. Teams of people can work for hours or days getting it 'just right'.

It is meaningless.

And today most of the people on those teams rarely ever speak to another person.
