Good news for our country ...

From the article:

GE Appliances plans to shift production of refrigerators, gas ranges and water heaters out of China and Mexico as part of a more than $3 billion investment to expand its U.S. operations in Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina.

The investment — the second-largest in the Louisville-based company’s history — is expected to add more than 1,000 jobs while ramping up domestic production and modernizing plants in the next five years.

“ GE Appliances is a subsidiary of the China-based Haier company.

Overall, GE Appliances says it contributes more than $30 billion annually to the U.S. economy and supports more than 113,000 jobs – both directly and indirectly – through its operations, suppliers and distribution network. ”

Whirlpool = for real made in ‘Murica

The funny thing that I have noticed with my job is that Chinese and Indian companies have been more willing to invest in US Manufacturing than some of the Western-based companies.

Duh, it's because he was always bending the law to its fullest, and everybody knew it....while liars who profess to be for small government and rule of law gave him cover.

Sounds great!

Oh, wait... The devil's in the details at the end of the article...

(1) GE Appliances employees 113,000 people. This will reshore only 1,000 people; and the biggie...

(2) GE Appliances is a Chinese-owned company (Haier). Profits derived from this firm are effectively ex-patriated to this communist country, and our American workers answer to their Chinese bosses and, ultimately, help the Chinese.

So, yay, more Americans with Chinese bosses in the future... Kind of like Trump with his Russian bosses.

Fine work, Donald.

You’ve missed a few things.

113,000 are direct AND indirect jobs. Suppliers and distributors. Also, 1.000 is INITIAL US jobs added directly by GE Appliances.

When the Chinese owned company builds appliances in the US, they pay income taxes on their profits. The US workers pay income taxes. When those appliances are built in China, they don’t pay US income taxes on their earnings.

The US plants get an economic benefit by building appliances here and exporting them. When those appliances are built in China and exported to other countries, there is zero economic benefit to the US.

There will be US employment while building the new factories and infrastructure in the US.

We aren’t boycotting China. We’re simply evening up the playing field. Also, China can steal our laundry technology and it’s not a big deal.

man the right has gone hard over to caring about the federal government over the individual.

I’m not THE RIGHT. But when choosing between having US based workers who pay taxes or foreign workers that don’t, it’s a no brainer. Workers paying income taxes isn’t something new.

its just a weird thing to point out.

why not say Americans will have competitive wages? why focus on the taxes they will pay? its a really weird thing to argue as a positive without bringing up the actual good.

Because MAGA has shifted their beliefs to paying more taxes, and paying higher prices for goods as being a form of 'patriotism'.

whats going to be equally fun to watch is the democrats swing in response. even before Trump they would have taken steps to distance themselves from the republicans. but with Trump they will be falling all over themselves to get away from him.

Because most of the Treasury’s revenues come from workers. There’s $37 trillion debt, the Social Security’s trust fund is projected to go into a deficit balance in just a few years, and Medicare costs aren’t in check (outside of the traditional Medicare, gap/supplemental is having huge increases in premiums, insurers got hammered on Advantage policies). Building appliances here, no matter where the owners are domiciled helps to address those issues. Appliances made in China do not. Except for the import tariffs.

Also, a viable on shore manufacturer/competitor helps keep appliance prices in check. Otherwise Whirlpool might be the only domestic manufacturer of scale. WHR owns Amana and Maytag.

the budget needs to get cut, including all of those things you mentioned.

we aren't raising enough money to actually close the deficit as it currently exists, and worse the spending just keeps expanding.

doing more of the same, trying to raise revenue, while not touching overall spending, is just crazy big government bs.

Spending comes in many forms. Spending on infrastructure if done properly is an investment that should generate positive ROI for the government. Even defense spending supports businesses that pay taxes and create substantial, non-government employment. Spending on expanding social welfare programs not so much.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with that. I’m certainly in agreement as I’ve beat my head against the debt wall. I think I’ve just gotten to a point where I finally realized Washington isn’t going to do a damn thing about spending until we are absolutely teetering on the brink. And none of us are going to like their solution to the “crisis”.

none of it is getting touched though. in fact some of the biggest cuts were to programs that bought American goods via USAID.

the military generally can't account for like 1/4 to 1/3 of their budget. if thats the case, then clearly we can cut that amount without losing anything.

with the fed running most of the infrastructure jobs end up looking like Obama's shovel ready jobs.

until you get the federal government out of the way of the way of the federal government, nothing is going to get better.

😂

A comment from a resistor trying to find anything negative surrounding 1,000 new jobs. Please keep it up as it will surely help your radical party.

Oh by the way, thank Obama for the Haier purchase of GE Appliances as it happened under his corrupt administration.
