I'd rather see an NFL type set up than these non-sense cross country super conferences. It's already absurd. Heck they can keep some of the names. They're already diluted now anyways.

As of 2024 there were 134 D1 teams. That's 12 national divisions of 9-10 teams. Division winners take all. 12 team playoff. SOS, rankings, etc., can determine who gets 1st round necessary bye's in a 12 team team line up to even the further rounds out.

After that it became a conference vs conference competition for media money and eyeballs and having schools from all over provided more eyeballs and more media money.

Greed. It's why the B1G and ACC and SEC couldn't stick to a regional footprint. They leave media money on the table if they don't seek new areas with new eyeballs.

For all the grief the NCAA takes, they TRIED to keep the money from driving conference expansion and got sued for trying. Sound familiar? Whatever the NCAA tries, they get sued for trying and that's how it's been for years.

Of course, the NCAA being in violation of Antitrust Law from the outset didn't help their chances in keeping money out of athletics.

Well, they have a business model that's not legal so that's a bit of a challenge to defend in court, I'm sure. The NCAA tried and somewhat succeeded in appealing and putting off the Alston "headshot" decision as long as possible but once that was settled the teams and conferences and players moved in like vultures to gut the NCAA very quickly.
