I ran all the recent UT football coverage videos from this week through chat to see if that could replace listening to them and the report is not really it you want the read between the lines stuff.

Here are the five most “insider-level” nuggets that came out of today’s UTK football coverage — the stuff that goes beyond surface headlines and feels like leaks, coaching whispers, or bold predictions:

Local sources hinted that coaches were surprised by how quickly Joey Aguilar picked up Josh Heupel’s system, which is why he jumped Merklinger despite being the newer transfer.

So the most insider thread today: Aguilar wasn’t just the “safe” QB pick — he actually forced the staff’s hand with how quickly he took control of the offense.

I look at the coaches reactions and actions. No panic in the portal, quiet confidence is all over them when they speak. Coaches, who are for the most part not polished politicians, show their concern in their speaking pretty transparently. His last two years you could tell Nick Saban was not very confident in his team.
I believe the Tennessee staff are pretty happy with what they got. Last two years there was a lot more caution and hesitancy. We played cautious. I think it will be different this year, we'll see.

Some things I have pondered.

Aguilar has more on field production than Hendon, Milton or Nico. Worse arm than all 3, but likely more accuracy than Joe and Nico on deep ball. Less running ability than Hendon or Nico. He has similar WR corp to Nico, but Worse than Hendon. Better defense than Hendon and Milton. OL is likely most talented and RB is maybe a slight step back or push.

Talent wise, not a chance it’s worse, but just very unproven of course

Transfer portal player rankings (Portal).

Then he adjusts those for team schedules (who they play and how tough it is).

So, according to his model, those 10 are expected to be the strongest teams relative to their schedules in 2025.

Key Notes

He points out that No. 1 (Ohio State) and No. 3 (Miami) were the teams in his championship game projection last year, which gives some credibility to the model.

At the end, when he says “My NC pool tier teams all here too”, NC = National Championship. He is saying that all the teams he sees as capable of making the championship pool are included in this top 10 list.

In short, this is a projected power ranking for the 2025 college football season, based on recruiting, transfers, and schedule strength, not just preseason polls or hype.

I hope the first one is right, but I wouldn’t accept that as evidence. The second one is not hidden. The third one is a weird way to say GMac still wouldn’t start. The fourth one is bizarre: I don’t think the coaches were talking about that but fans and trolls talk about that stuff all the time.

Well I am going to look on the positive side. I really hope Sampson and Pearce tear it up this year, we are loaded.
