The Atlanta Braves

I’m so old that I remember the Braves in the NL West playing 30 games a year on the west coast at 10:35. And you had to stay up because there was no internet and the newspaper deadline was midnight. And ESPN hadn’t invented the scroll yet so you just had to watch Sportscenter and wade through a bunch of catchphrases until they happened to say the score you wanted to hear.

And we LIKED it!
But the internet tells me that the everything in life was better before the internet came along and ruined it!

It’s insane the Braves and Reds allowed that to happen while Chicago and St. Louis got to play in the East. If something like that happened today I would never shut up about it

Braves were relocated right before that all happened, so I’m sure they were just happy to be there. The Reds responded by hammering everybody throughout the 70s.

Now they are labeling Murphy as a defense first catcher… This is why can’t engage with our fans on twitter man lol

My feeling is he is going to Tennessee. It is closer to home and he has visited Tennessee more than Michigan. Just an observation.
It's 435 miles vs. 360 miles...doubt it makes that big of a difference. Michigan has recruited Virginia pretty well over the years. They already have 3 guys from there committed for 2026. It's an area that I'm surprised we haven't gotten more guys from recently, especially with Virginia Tech having been down for a while now.

More athletes in East Virginia and it's pretty far. 8 hours from Knoxville in the Hampton Roads area. I don't west side of Virginia is a heavy hot bed where Knoxville could be closer.

It's funny how wide Virginia is. My sister came up to visit in July and they got to Virginia from Knoxville in 2 hours and she was like "Man, we are making good time, we are getting close!" and then the GPS said 6 hours away lol

Knox is closer but I'm not sure when you're a HS athlete at his level, and the nature of the decision that this is, that it makes all that much of a difference.

Hiter is from Mineral, which is 402 miles from Knoxville. It's 580 from Ann Arbor (the numbers I pulled above were what On3 said, and must be as the crow flies or something because they are much different). They are both drives you could do in a single day.

I remember when I used to get up as a kid at 8am sportscenter came on. It was non stop highlights and they had a list on the side that told you what game was next.

Now all their programming is non stop talk show BS

I’d rather do it that way and/or at least go back to an unbalanced schedule. With the rule changes and the elimination of League Presidents 30 years ago, AL/NL is an arbitrary label at this point.
With the institution of the NL DH, there is no AL/NL identity remaining. All same same. At this point might as well align geographically and maybe create some regional market rivalries. If you're not going to bring back the hitting pitcher, then I could care less how they align. I lost major interest when there was no longer a chance of a Rick Mahler jacking a long ball for his own cause.
