Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I love it.

If you aren’t good, people won’t hate. And they sure won’t talk about you. They assume we can’t reload like UGA, Bama, TX, OSU, and others. This isn’t 2010 anymore and NiL has greatly benefited our program. We can recruit and sign top talent now. Portal or high school.

Syracuse is going to be an eye opener for many. Especially defensively. The talent gap will be apparent from the opening series.
Running back discussion is the litmus test for me. People who cite losing Sampson as a reason the running game will take a huge step back are people who don't know what they're talking about.

I think the only way to come to that conclusion is to look at the numbers and just assume that was all Sampson's raw talent and we have nothing to replace it.

Bishop is basically Jabari Small, and then you've got Peyton Lewis who is more physically talented than Dylan Sampson was. Add a talented transfer and freshman to that room, and you've got an upgrade from last year.

Lewis is still working on blocking. Not disagreeing with your points at all, but Sampson was a special blend of ability, experience and durability. We'll need a squad of guys to do what he did, which is more than normal, but yeah people struggle to see the o-line and healthy backs is more determinant of our running success than the specific number on the jersey.

I saw something yesterday that said espn/bama activist Rece whatshisname had us completely unranked. He had Toledo at 25. There is a lot of outright manipulation without consequences.
Same for the picks by Baton Rouge paper sportswriter, a young kid, whose editor states that he hates the Vols. This kid also left us unranked, but put his home team LSU at 4, 1st opponent Clemson at #1, his 18-25 as TxTech, iowastate, Duke, baylor, AUBURN (LSU opponent), Pitt, SMU, Indiana ... but left the Vols plumb out. 🤔
So was this lazy ignorance, or cynical political spin?

Deliberate rigging

Lewis drawing Greek god references

i over exaggerated by saying the 1930s. I would love to see the Air Coryell offense in this era. The rule changes favor the offenses more now. You have to be able to score. It is extremely hard to win a championship with an average offense like we had last season.
If Dan Fouts played in the current hands off the quarterback era the Chargers would score 200 points a game. I also still disagree that you have to have great offense to win and defense isn't enough. The '85 Bears were not electric on offense by any means and Alabubba has won multiple Nattys with defense and pedestrian offense.

If he can't block, just hand him the damn ball and let him eat

I mean, says who?

Not to be combative, but this talking point annoys me because Sampson let Hendon get murdered one time and the narrative that he couldn't block persisted for two years just because of one play lol.

I thought it was mentioned by Simms the other day, but maybe it was a different player.
