Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I will probably get a job that not too stressful a couple days a week. Going spend. MOst my time taking my grandkids to their events. Granddaughter is in gymnastics now and and the 5 year old wants to do karate and play tee ball... I wasn't there when my kids were young I was out busting my ass working so I'm not going miss my grandkids youth like I did my own ..
You 2 are a lot alike!! He missed a good bit of my stuff and my sisters, but anytime a grand has something to do he’s there, heck, even takes in stuff my girlfriends kids do.

He didn’t run out of bounds on the last play of the game. Improvement!

And anyone who uses that game is blind. Our O line couldn’t block a fart that game. Not that I loved Nico or thought he was great, but he was not our issue that game.
Fair point on OSU, My point was that the first game was pretty much what we saw on last game(s) of season, still could not read defense or throw long ball.

UGA at home
OU at home and not in Norman
Starkville is not a hard place to play compared to at Arkansas, which is at home.
OU has upgraded substantially at QB and will easily have better weapons on offense.

We haven't come close to beating UGA.

We haven't won at Florida and Alabama since 2003. Its a harder schedule.

3 whole games that have been automatic losses and we have to deal with better QB play from most everyone we play.

I turn 55 on November 3rd and November 4th I'm retiring. Mortgage has been paid off for 5 years, no car payment.
I to retired at 55. Budget buster was cost of private health insurance which was before government help on cost.

Felt strange as all my new golfing buddies were 70 year old players. Travel and start on your bucket list asap.

In my case I had a great 5 year run and then health issues from an accident back when I was 18 created issues I still deal with 14 years later.

Best of luck on enjoying what you have planned for along time.

I watched Mateer score ab 10 points on Wyoming btw.

Also, OUs schedule is nasty. Same with FL to say the least

Let it play out. We know nothing.
He's infinitely better than what they had last year. When I've watched him he has lit people up. Could be the best QB we play all year.

Still comes down to rakrooting on O for me. We've all heard the schtick 1000 times, beside at this point the team is what they is.

Good news is we have a really really good base, on campus. Once this core group of offensive players gets time in the saddle its going to be nasty. But there are going to be some growing pains.

Still would like to have that difference maker.

But man, getting that TE from Oregon. ✅

Add TK, and or Hiter. ✅

As far as 2025, either make time to watch, or find some crocs, and watch your grass grow.
It didnt turn out the way I planned, but I'm alright with it because I lowered my expectations.

Billy Napier went 8-5 and only didn't get fired because they couldn't secure the homerun hire they wanted yet they stroll into 2025 as AP #15 with an injured Lagway who is still in a boot. Incredible.
They looked better as the year went on. They'll be better this year is lagway can get healthy in time.

I think John Mateer is being way over hyped for a guy who's only season as a starter came against playing a Mountain West schedule. I might be wrong about this but I just think it's crazy that he's being anointed the savior of Oklahoma football.
It's like everyone completely forgot to add in the Brent Venables effect. That dude has botched more QB's than he has fingernails.

Does anyone think we're going to lose to all of Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida, and Bama? Is anyone willing to predict that?

I think the roster is way too good at too many spots to start chalking up losses like we're in the thick of the Dooley era. We'll be favored against Oklahoma and we could very well be favored against Florida.

It's much easier to say "7-5" than to actually count out 5 losses from a reasonably objective standpoint.

This. Literally every single repeat team on our schedule is better or equal to last year.
Yep. The only thing "better" about our schedule is the locations. We get OU and Arky at home, but those teams are probably better than a year ago. Thankfully UK and MSU are the away games but we better be sharp. Vandy is likely going to be better this year, and if Pavia isn't on a stretcher by Thanksgiving we get them at home. We could go 5-0 or 3-2 for that stretch.

We went 2-1 against UGA, Bama, and FL, but we got Bama and FL at home last year. This year those are road games and UGA at home is still a tall order. Let's hope to go 1-2, but 0-3 is a real possibility.

So I see best case 6-2 and worst 3-5 for SEC schedule. Its a tight margin. I think our defense will keep us in almost all of our games, comes down to the QB and offense.

I think we beat them all. Aguilar is gonna look as good as he did in '23, probably better due to the scheme change. Our wrs are studs, our rbs are too, our OL is improved, our defense is elite. We have Heupel, and he's a dang smart genius when it comes to game planning a team.

We'll play in the SEC title game and have a 1st round bye in the natty tourney.

This all strikes me as reasonable. I'm thinking 8-4: 10-2 best case (the offense clicks and the defense continues to be strong), 7-5 worst case (we don't get much meaningful production from the QBs/WRs, the lines are not as good as hoped).

We haven't beaten UGA at all since Kirby's first year and haven't been closer than 14 points in any of those losses. We haven't won at Bama or Florida in more than two decades, and both should be solid teams. We seem to drop one road game a year we probably don't anticipate, and then there's always the chance Oklahoma is going to be much improved, but we'll see.

I have high cholesterol, and my NP (who I see instead of an internist) recommended a Calcium test as well. It came back zero as well, and it was reassuring. I am in my mid-40's. She is encouraging me to also take a blood test that can tell if your cholesterol is genetic. I haven't done that yet.
ApoE genotype. Check it. We're learning more every day about how ApoE4 affects calcium, cholesterol, heart, brain, cancer, etc. The good news is that diet and supplementation can eliminate most/all of the risk from it, but it's not likely things you would do otherwise.

High cholesterol can be caused by many things, but the gene I mentioned is one cause. And for the record, cholesterol isn't harmful. Inflammation is harmful. Cholesterol can be a symptom of inflammation, but cholesterol is also what the body uses to deal with the damage from inflammation. The real focus shouldn't be cholesterol, but inflammation. Some mainstream docs are now admitting what alternative practitioners have been saying for years. My cardiologist was a straight line "take your statin" guy, but has now changed his mind on most of the "conventional" wisdom. He isn't alone.
